The Athletic wrote an excellent article about it.

Didn’t realise how unpopular he was. Considering that if they’d won at the weekend they would have gone 2nd and they beat Spurs 7-2 in the Champions League a couple of weeks ago, without the context the sacking seemed out of the blue!

Bayern is actually known to be like the Tampa Bay Rays of soccer ( A forward thinking FO) and while they spend a lot they don't really come close to other huge European Giants but they are very smart on how they spend their money.

This analogy doesn’t really work mate. Bayern are by far the most popular and richest team in Germany. As such they buy all the best young German players, but also can attract top stars at ridiculous money too.

They can also get the best player in the league (Lewandowski) from their direct rivals (Dortmund) for free!

Yeah and then they got Hummels from them for free soon after too! Dortmund have done really well recovering to compete again the last couple of years (and to a lesser extent RB Leipzig) but Bayern have still won 7 titles in a row.

Alphonso getting his fourth straight start today for Bayern in a big Champions league match!

I really hope the new manager likes him. Mourinho for example would be a terrible hire for Davies, as he dislikes playing youngsters.

He mostly plays leftback at Bayern

I thought he was a natural winger, is he not??

I havent seen much of him, but if he's gonna make the adjustment to LB he better learn to defend, and not every winger/AMF is able to make that transition so easily.

But I hope he's sucessfull. Canada needs all the top players they can get

He is a natural winger but he has all the qualities Bayern looks for in a LB. They use his pace to shutdown opposing teams counters and he can easily push the ball up the field and join the attack. He's been one of Bayern best players over the last 5 games he has started.

Bayern has Gnarby, Coman, Perisic on the wing so Davies fills a bigger need right now at LB and overall learning the defensive side of things will make him a more complete winger in the future.

It doesnt look like Altidore will be fully fit for sunday.

I know TFC have done well without him so far, but I still prefer to see him in the lineup

"Coach Hansi Flick confirmed in his pre-game press conference that Alphonso Davies will start, since he has the pace required to keep red-hot Achraf Hakimi in check and put additional pressure on the Dortmund back-line. Flick’s comments also indicated that Thiago and Philippe Coutinho might be benched again for this game."

Dortmund looked terrible. They wont play CL next year if they keep this up.

Davies looked good, but he didnt really have much to do as BD's attack was virtually non-existent.

I hope Bayern progress far into the CL this year, I wanna see how he does against world class attackers

Davies had another very very strong game. He shutdown the left side of the field. I'm reading a Bayern GDT and Bayern fans are ready to get down on their knees for Davies.

My goodness, Davies.

Bayern website had this to say..

"Alphonso Davies was nothing short of incredible at left back today. He performed his defensive duties to the highest quality (resemblant of a prime Alaba) and contributed well to the attack. Definitely one of Bayern’s best players on the pitch today."

Unbelievable that Barca paid $100 million for Griezmann. I think he's worth $60 mill max

Griezmann is world class but his best position is a second forward behind a traditional striker (like Giroud with France and Costa with Atletico Madrid).

I wish Barca would move on from their manager Valverde. Under him they aren't good enough away from home and are too over reliant on Messi.

- New highlight video of Davies @ Bayern + Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcdufNGBeoU

Also, let's hope Bayern's coach did not watch the Canada vs USA game because Davies played like s***.

Bayern wins 4-0 with Davies playing all 90 mins. He seems to be a fan favourite among Bayern fans (thankfully they seem to not have watched the Canada vs USA game)
