kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Was Neil Wagner not eligible? I figured they would have gobbled up that sub-4 ERA.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Redmond's TIPS was 3.72 Steamer projects a 4.35 FIP for him. 2.4 fWAR if he makes 32 starts for some reason. I dunno. I kind of like him more than Happ for some reason. Say what you want about the Blue Jays' pitching, but the depth is certainly there. Dickey Buehrle Morrow Happ Hutch Stroman Drabek Redmond Nolin Rasmussen McGowan Romero
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I'd take him over Happ. His xxFIP isn't near his TIPS, but he'd be a better #5 than Happ. Mostly because of the salary gap, of course. What's his dos equis FIP? At 77 innings, we are near enough to the predictive inflection point anyways.
Jays Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Mentioning TIPS is like JFaS' bat signal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 4.21, Happ's is 4.50. Welp. At least Carlos Perez is getting rule 5 exposed (methinks).

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Quality > Quantity BJ rotation blows Yes, very likely. Needs a front end guy.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Yes, very likely. Needs a front end guy. I'm one of the few that thinks Samar would count as one. Like his upside like an Anibal. Not sure what he's making with arb now buy maybe there's a chance to extend him past 1st year of FA, with option maybe.

That doesn't mean he'll ever improve though, and the Cubs will probably want a shitload.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I don't know a that I can think of a rookie who really deserves it any more than Redmond does Agree. Not sure if this LOL in the title of this thread was meant for him or just the general state of the Jays. Either way it's kind of stupid. Redmond pitched better than my expectations for him and I think most people feel the same. LOLing at a weak rookie getting the ROY for the team is also stupid. Lots of good teams don't necessarily have a good rookie representative and winning ROY doesn't really mean much of anything. Look at Alfredo Griffin, he won the ROY for the Jays in 1979, the worst team in the league that year and he turned out one of the worst careers you can have with any sort of longevity. You LOL at Todd Redmond? Well his WAR at zero is already pretty close to Alfredo Griffin's career. Could hit, couldn't play defense...and one of the worst base stealers ever.
