TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I know I could have put this in any thread but this is truly unreal and deserving of a thread! Even if it's just the place I will come back to for ranting about the head office.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Hes making 750k and is the 25th man. I'm not even mad bro. I just want them to move Izturis out and look at someone like Jeff Baker. I expect Lind will be picked up and traded in a deal for a starter. The fact that Macier is here is the reason this is so bad...and was so bad this past season (is considerably worse for next season). We have 2 25th men as it is with Goins and Macier! If you need MDR to babysit than f***ing well put him on the coaching staff. If you want to replace Zaun and Hayhurst because they are mean to JPA than hire MDR for the booth...wasting a spot on the 25 man on him is just f***ing stupid!!!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 I would expect Goins will start next season at Triple-A. Would Goins even be here if Izturis didn't get hurt. He certainly wouldn't have had the playing time. He had a bad offensive season at Triple-A. They can't reward him based off a SSS. That's only been successful defensively. My point is that Goins is much better suited to being a 25th man than any of the others. Where he'll be doesn't matter, he's a better defensive player at 2B, SS and 3B than MDR. Having Macier (under contract for 2 more) and MDR while keeping Goins in AAA just because he has options is a horrible horrible horrible (I probably can't stress this enough) roster management. There are probably 25 Mark DeRosa's that will accept minor league deals and battle with Goins for that 25th spot. This is little s*** but it's the s*** that AA has been horrible at. Stop wasting spots on guys that have zero upside. Have some f***ing clue about roster management...it's not that much to ask as a fan.
Jays Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Decisions like this are really unbelievable. AA is in the unenviable position of having to add like 17 wins this offseason, and he's going to kick things off by giving a 25-man spot to Mark DeRosa? We're talking about a guy who put up 0.0 WAR this year, -0.9 WAR since 2009, and will be 39 before the season. How can you punt a roster spot by giving it to Mark f***ing DeRosa in October? You need to at least try to find a win from the spot, and DeRosa has zero probability of contributing that. Another very telling decision from a terrible front office. Why go through the trouble of trying to find a player to add 1-2 wins to the team when you can just pick up MDR option and call it a day? I hope this isn't real.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Meh , nothing is signed yet as far as I know and what would he make as a coach ? They may just want him around at that money as depth and as a coach if they get a decent MIF. Doesn't mean he is on the 25 man . . As for Lind , at 5 mil I,m fairly sure we can't do better . Janssen is a given .
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 of the 90 win teams the following guys spent time as the 6th or 7th infielder. Boston - Broke the season with Isglesias & Ciriaco (cut), Bogaerts now in the role and they brought in Johnny Mac for 6 PA's and some defense in September. Tampa - Sean Rodiguez, Ryan Roberts Detroit - Ramon Santiago (and a bunch of OF that can play like Don Kelly) Cleveland - Aviles A's - Eric Sogard Most of these teams have players that can play IF in a pinch as OF's and only go with one back up infielder. They all have some upside. All keeping MDR does is insures that Goins is in the minors and the Jays will once again have two back up infielders with the best defensive one in the minors. At least DeRosa might retire and bail us out...or that will leave a spot for Jamey Carroll or Johnny Mac.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Doesn't mean he is on the 25 man . This is where I somewhat agree with old school thinking. You don't offer a veteran player a major league contract and then try and sneak him through waivers and send him down (also he has the right to refuse the assignment) if you aren't giving him the spot, then sign him to a minor league contract.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
