There should be a limit on how many reviews though. Lets say the jays have a rally going and have a pitcher on the ropes then a replay on whether it was fair or foul happens and gives the pitcher a chance to catch his breath and compose himself a bit. I like the idea of getting the calls right its just I don't want it to slow down the game. Its going to be interesting to see how they go about this.

I know the complaint against it is going to be that 'it slows down and already slow game'.

But it really does ruin the game for fans of any level of knowledge. Even the casual fans will get riled up when the broadcasters replay mistakes and point it out to them.

I'm all for it. Less power to the welke and hernandez douchebags of the league.

I think what they should do is a have one or two guys watching all the bang bang plays and tags and whenever there is a missed call, just radio down to the crew chief who would have an ear piece and correct it.

Exactly... We need dedicated replay guys. The thing that takes a long time to do is the fat ass umps trundling off and on the field.

Another thing going for this is that some of the HR / not HR calls can be tough and take some time to review, but a bunch of the safe/out, fair/foul, on the bag/not on the bag a la Helton haha.

Those calls would be pretty quickly made if it was just coming to the ump from baseball HQ.

you do realize that this is where they will try to hide the worst umps they have in the game now, right? all the fat asses that can barely clear the food off their face to get on the field will be in the booth making mistakes there.

If we go that route how is it going to work. Does the crew chief wait after every close play until a play is confirmed. I think that is still going to eat up a bit of time if you think about how many bang bang plays there are during a game.

I am in agreement that something has to be done, however the last thing I want to see is a 2hr ball game extended to 2.5-3 hours with replays. The less time Pat and Buck have to talk the better.

I don't see why you have to confirm that vast majority of plays, the game should just keep moving for the most part. If you have a guy in the back watching every play, he can easily see if its close enough to warrant a review before the next batter even steps in the box.

I hope you are right because I think it will suck for the game if we have 2-3 umpire pow wows a game.

Ya thats probably the biggest thing. It might extend the games by a few minutes, but for me that doesnt matter. The more baseball the better. Especially if it leads to better umpiring.

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb-hoping-large-replay-expansion-164806860--mlb.html

Article says that Selig and Torre have looked at expanding video replay all the way to all plays except balls and strikes. There would be a official in a booth at the stadium or in one place with the umps on the field having head sets.

Considering they can't even get HR calls right with video replay there really isn't a point until they have people specified to review the replays.

I'm all for this if it means better called games. Setup a HQ like the NHL.

I don't see the need for limited reviews if the on field umps have headsets. The guy watching the replays is pretty much a 5th ump and would be watching the game on many screens at once so it shouldn't be a problem time wise for him to make the call to the umps on the field since he has a live connection with them through the headsets.

The Umps union might have a problem with that, even though, that's a substantial improvement over these incompetent f***heads baseball has now.
