Oh I hate it too, I'm just laughing at the fact that I (and definitely others) figured this would happen they decided to rehab it instead of going for the quick surgery.

They didn't lose any time. He was always going to be ready opening day 2015, and that hasn't changed.

 

Can't the recovery time go up to 18 months? That may be a bit beyond OD. I still think they should have gone for surgery immediately but I have a feeling NYM wants to compete next year so I guess I get where they were coming from.

Injury/suckage attrition for veteran pitchers (Halladay, Matsuzaka, Lincecum)

 

Pitching is so fickle it's insane. You just can't count on them year after year.

NEW YORK -- After making Joe Girardi a new contract offer, the New York Yankees are awaiting his decision on whether he will continue to manage the team, an official with knowledge of the talks told ESPNNewYork.com.

 

The source would not reveal the parameters of the new contract, but it is expected to be significant.

 

"We are going to give him a real good reason to stay," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said during a news conference Tuesday.

 

Girardi, 48, is in the final month of his three-year, $9 million deal. Mike Scioscia of the Los Angeles Angels is the highest-paid manager in baseball with an annual salary a tick above $5 million.

For what it would cost to acquire Phillips and his contract, I'm not sure it would be worth it. He looks like he's starting to decline, as the last couple of seasons indicate. He barely had a .700 OPS this season. Sure defensively he's one of the best if not the best, though if his bat is in significant decline, the Jays would basically be paying $12 million for a glove only second baseman.

His BABIP is down about 20 points. He has an adequate-very good bat for a 2B and a really good glove. His contract is reasonable. He's averaged ~2.9 fWAR/600 PA over his career.

With that said, if we have to spend a higher amount next year on a second baseman I think I'd rather just go out and get infante or someone similar rather than give assets too.

He probably is available, though I wouldn't want him here as a starter getting over 500 AB's. His offensive numbers are atrocious - the Jays would just be better running out Goins then.
