  3. Surprised they still want to get going on April 24, this was there set date from an earlier postponement on the season. Japanese baseball players test positive for coronavirus Mar 27, 2020 , By JIM ARMSTRONG TOKYO (AP) Three Hanshin Tigers players testing positive for the coronavirus this week isn't making Japanese baseball organizers think twice about starting the professional league season next month. National broadcaster NHK reported Friday that Tigers pitcher Shintaro Fujinami and two teammates have become the first professional baseball players in Japan to test positive amid the coronavirus pandemic that is shutting down sports around the world. Unlike Japan's professional soccer league which has canceled all games, Japanese baseball has been playing exhibition games with no spectators. The Tigers canceled Thursday's farm team practice game and had their home park, Koshien Stadium, disinfected after the positive tests. Japan professional baseball had earlier postponed the start of its regular season amid the pandemic and was aiming for April 24 as opening day. An NPB official on Friday insisted that's still the plan. "We do not plan to reconsider the date because of this," NPB secretary general Atsushi Ihara told reporters. "We are still aiming for April 24." Fujinami was examined at a hospital on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a doctor recommended he have a test. The 25-year-old right-hander reported losing his sense of smell, although he exhibited no other symptoms before the test. After checking the pitcher's activities over the past two weeks, it was determined that two other players who dined with Fujinami reported a diminished sense of taste. They also tested positive. The Tigers have not commented on the cases, but has ordered all of its players and staff to self-quarantine, and has suspended all practice through next Wednesday. Japan had 1,905 confirmed cases, including 712 from a quarantined cruise ship, with 53 deaths as of Thursday. After managing to keep the initial under control, Tokyo saw its biggest increase in infections on Thursday with 47 new cases reported. The number of cases worldwide has topped a half-million and deaths climbed past 24,000. For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. So far, more than 120,000 people have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. --- More AP sports: https://apnews.com/apf-sports and https://twitter.com/AP-Sports
  4. They'll likely do the same thing the NHL did when they lost a season, using an algorithm over a set amount of past final standings from 3-5 years or something like that. Just guessing it would be something like that, it makes sense.
  5. They'd atleast get a 1st and a comp. Just health sux man!
  6. I meant to edit this in, thanks friendo. There's no real reason for these guys to slide much in Mocks aside from their last write up. I just hate when guys both bitch after the draft on who you wanted specifically or guys waiting to shoot that thought process straight in the ass without a preference, per se.
  7. Yeah we've been linked to him since last year, thanks JimmyC!
  8. Right, but... nvm.
  9. I'm talking people starting to bring up the draft and relevance of guys liking Lacy over Hancock for example.... yada yada! I like the chat on players posters like, etc...
  10. We need a jimcanuck or jaysforlife...
  11. Nooooooo... it's way too early to start tis annual debate again, we might not have a draft for all we know.
  12. Most likely, we're going to see him at some point, regardless. imo
  13. Well, at least they're showing some good games today. *silver linings* Sad day, today is, really.

  18. Jays' Shapiro expects 4-week spring training before season Mar 22, 2020 , By IAN HARRISON TORONTO (AP) With no sign of when training camps can resume, Toronto Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro says he thinks Major League Baseball would need at least a month of workouts and exhibition games before regular season play can begin. Opening day has been postponed until at least mid-May because of the coronavirus pandemic. "Knowing that so many players are not even having any access to throwing at all or hitting at all, but most importantly just throwing, and probably limited access to just training and exercise, it's hard to imagine we could get ready in less than four weeks," Shapiro said in a teleconference with Toronto reporters. Shapiro cautioned that training camps aren't likely to reopen for some time yet. "I do think that we're, by and large, waiting for some sort of flattening of the curve and recognition that we have done our best to limit the strain on the healthcare system and the economic system," he said. "Until that time, the exact outcome and impact on our schedule, and all of the corresponding business that cascades off that, really can't be determined. "It certainly looks like we are not dealing with days and likely not weeks, but closer to months," he said. Speaking from his Toronto home, where he and his family are isolating themselves, Shapiro said he expects negotiations between Major League Baseball and the players' union on an industry-wide plan to compensate players for missed games to conclude "in the next 24 to 48 hours." All but three of Toronto's major league players have left the team's spring training site in Dunedin, Florida. Those that remain are South Korean left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, Japanese right-hander Shun Yamaguchi and right-hander Rafael Dolis, who is from the Dominican Republic. Shapiro said the three players "did not have any place to go." They are the only players who maintain access to Toronto's Florida facilities. Ryu is accompanied by his wife, who is seven months pregnant. Shapiro said no Blue Jays players or staff have displayed any symptoms of the new coronavirus, and that no one has been tested. Some 30 minor league players and four staffers who have been unable to go home are being housed in a Dunedin-area hotel, Shapiro said. Eighteen of those players are from Venezuela, and cannot return home. Shapiro said Toronto's big league players have been given individualized workout plans, while minor league players still at the team hotel in Florida have received workouts they can perform in their rooms. "The physical exercise they can do is as much about mental health and maintaining some semblance of normalcy and routine, and probably a little bit less baseball-specific," Shapiro said. "There's almost no one who could maintain game-ready shape in light of circumstances." ---
  19. They'll likely both be on the roster. Drury needs to get the ball in the air, as you've just said he hits it hard.
  20. Yeah, he's certainly no one to worry over, might get good results.
