I need to see a side angle and unfortunately SN either doesn't have the cameras or they aren't showing it but I believe he's taking the Mattingly approach and trying to be short to the ball - so basically his bat path goes straight down - from his shoulders directly to the ball (like a chop to a tree) and then up. So his bat isn't in the zone very long which decreases the chances of him barrelling the ball. The way to get good loft on the ball is to get behind the ball instead of slicing down on it, match swing path with the plane of the ball. It looks like an "upper cut" but it's not.
If you hear a hitting coach mention swing path and ball plane, sign him up. It's well documented, Mattingly is true old school and doesn't believe in any of the new swings/approaches
