  1. Since like May 28th or May 29th, Austin Martin has a .440 OBP, a 17.0 BB%, and a 17.6 K%.
  2. Obviously the bar for hitting for a catcher isn’t very high, so he definitely should be a major leaguer, I think. Even if it’s just as a back up. For us, though, he’s clearly a ways down the depth chart given some of our other catching prospects.
  3. Yeah, that BA update was their first update on the season. They usually make another one around now, I believe. And they said Moreno might be a fair bit higher in that, if I recall. MLB Pipeline still haven’t released their mid-season/post-draft updated rankings.
  4. Wow, #5 for Moreno. I can’t wait to see where MLB Pipeline and Baseball America rank him.
  5. I did some research. Keep in mind, I’m a moron, so I may have screwed up somewhere along the way. Orelvis Martinez currently has a .306 iso and a 26.1 K% in 280 plate appearances as a 19 year old in A ball. I wanted to see how rare it is for a teenager to put up a .300 iso in a single season in full season ball. I used 240 plate appearances as the cut off (for some reason), and fangraphs only goes back to 2006. I got: Giancarlo Stanton, 2008. .318 iso; 28.3 K% Joey Gallo, 2013. .365 iso; 37.0 K% Seuly Matias, 2018 .320 iso; 34.8 K%
  6. If you’re not Rey Ordonez defensively in the minors, you’re moving to third or second lol
  7. Maybe. But I think the expectation is that he’s more likely to move to third.
  8. You shouldn’t be surprised he didn’t pay. Trump supporters either: 1) don’t have the money to pay 2) don’t have the character to keep their word. Or, usually 3) both.
  9. Over the last two games he’s 8-10, with 4 HR, 2 doubles, 12 RBI, and 2 walks.
  10. He homered again 😮
  11. How did you take that as a comparison? I just gave an example of a player that improved his strikeout rate as he climbed the minors.
  12. It’s possible, but it doesn’t always work like that. When Ronald Acuna was 19 like Orelvis. His strike out rates were: A+ - 31.7% AA - 23.0% AAA - 19.8% It got better each level he advanced, for some reason. He’s hitting for a ton of power for a 19 year old, and his strike out rate isn’t outrageous by any means. I think it’s just a matter of fine tuning things as he progresses.
  13. Who knows. Weird situation. Just glad we’re not the ones having to deal with it.
  14. Mookie Betts and several of his teammates have stopped following him on Instagram. I know that sounds like an “oooh, big deal” type of thing. But I think in this situation it’s pretty notable.
  15. Going waaay back a good comparison might be Bo Jackson.
  16. As an Eagles fan, I’ve honestly been impressed with Michael Vick ever since he left prison and signed with the Eagles. He took responsibility, he never blamed anyone, and he became a leader. I’m not surprised he’s had no issues since. Also, Michael Vick is one of the most talented football players ever. Certainly not one of the best, but one of the most talented. Trevor Bauer is the fourth best pitcher on his own team. They’re nowhere near “equally talented”.
  17. A large percentage of people already did. Of course, there’s a big difference in finding a person a sexual predator and just finding them a regular a-hole.
  18. Does he? His managing in the World Series said otherwise.
  19. My take when the Dodgers signed Bauer was that he would be their 3rd best pitcher. He’s been their 4th best pitcher. Never anticipated the rape allegations, though.
  20. Just shows how tough the MLB is. Wander probably hasn’t had a stretch like that in his life.
  21. I know what you mean. If these were major leaguers I would definitely agree. But in the minors babip can often just be a sign of a good hitter, as opposed to a lucky hitter. Mike Trout had ridiculous babip numbers in the minors (and really good ones in the majors). Acuna had ridiculous babip numbers. Tatis had really good babip numbers. Juan Soto, Vladdy — when he hit .400, etc. On the other hand, walk rate in the minors can simply be a product of taking advantage of not very good pitchers that can’t throw the ball over the plate. FWIW, Rutschman is averaging 4.165 p/pa, while Moreno is averaging 4.30.
  22. If they end up comparable at all, it’s a win for us. We’re comparing a 1st overall pick to a guy we signed for $25K. Imagine how annoyed Orioles fans would be if we signed a comparable player to their 1.1 pick for $25,000?
  23. I mean, I don’t know how exactly we’re supposed to grade the defense of minor league catchers, right now. But fwiw, Moreno has zero errors this year, zero passed balls, and has thrown out 13 of 30 baserunners(43%).
  24. Rutschman is considered by a lot of people to be the #2 prospect in baseball.
  25. It’s worth noting that Moreno and Adley Rutschman are at the same level. Moreno is over two years younger, and he’s significantly outperforming Rutschman. And Rutschman is having a damn good season. Moreno is likely to skyrocket in rankings if he keeps this up.
