  1. Grichuk off to an epically s*** start: .240/.321/.240 in 25 AB so far. I guess it could be worse - like poor Benetendi
  2. Don't forget the dreadful baserunning
  3. Seems you were right!! This is painful to watch
  4. I would too if was in the air like the earlier one that Benentendi stole a hit on, but he beat the ball into the ground and just got lucky. With 2 out a man on and a s***-baller on the mound you need to be doing damage there!
  5. All he nneds to do is tell Tellez you are sitting the rest of the game and tell Drury to get his glove and Shaw to get his 1B glove !
  6. He did after yesterday's base running fiasco. I say bench Tellez and put Drury at third (Shaw at 1st) for the rest of this game.
  7. That's a sign of a good veteran pitcher being able to pitch out of a mess of his own making. Now if the Jays can just scratch out a few runs.....
  8. And yesterday was Ryan Weber (since sent down to the practice squad).
  9. Yeah, looked pretty bad on that 88 mph FB down the middle for strike 3 though.
  10. What change(s)? I would say this hitting coach is probably on pretty thin ice right now (especially with Dante Bichette already on board).
  11. I don't know why they couldn't have just let Waguespack pitch. Since Snitker DID have the updated line card with Waguespack on it, it made it clear the umps dropped the ball on not checking for and printing out the revised lineup card (although I am not sure when it became known Snitker had it). And especially when the rules in the official book versus the rules they are using are in conflict (how the hell can that even be the case??). But yes Montoyo is mostly to blame for not confirming the umps had the most up to date list before the game started. And this electronic sending of the lineups is apparently not due to the virus issue but was planned for this season all along. It should have been an expected scenario that they might not check for a revised version sent out later in the day, so always confirm last minute changes verbally that they could write in if they had missed it. Conclusion: Charles is a dunce and needs to go.
  12. They did score 2 against Weber over 3 ip. The Boston BP is not that bad, although Barnes has been struggling, including giving up 2 walks to the Jays in the 8th. The inability to execute and score at least one run there is really pathetic. What a waste of a great effort by Alford stealing 2 bases there. I really wanted to like Grichuk, but I think I am out of patience with this guy. Watching a 3-1 FB right down the pipe go by in that spot was inexusable. Bench the f***er and give Alford a shot to play.
  13. Yeah gotta enjoy the few bright spots like him and Cavan right now.
  14. Oh, good to know! I wasn't sure if switching to the taxi squad would require going through waivers or that they were expanding the taxi squad. It should be very manageable with 28 active roster (I think MLB decided to keep this for the duration of 2020 regular season instead of going down to 26) plus 5 man taxi squad. Regardless, it seems the time is rapidly running out on Alford. Maybe he can go to a new org. and flourish like Mike Yastrzemski, who spent 5 years in the Orioles' system before going to SF and breaking out last season.
  15. thanks for clarifying. I do know about the issues with politics/current events arguments, so I got the picture. Laika seems like a good member and will be a good mod !
  16. yeah good point. He (unlike Alford) has options, so I bet he gets sent down. Alford is equally valuable as a pinch runner (remember Espinal started at 2nd and stole 3rd in the top of the 10th versus TB).
  17. The bullpen has been a bright spot in this season so far (excluding Gaviglio, Yamaguchi and Giles). Really nice to see our Canadian boy Romano breaking through and looks like a keeper in the relief role! Also Kay is a nice result early in this season. BUT for me, the highlight so far is not having to listen to the moronic musings of Tabler and instead we get the excellent work of Shulman in play by play. Objective #1 for Rogers and the Jays should be to get this guy calling all the games next season.
  18. baseball arguments getting carried over to other threads? If so, is that necessarily a problem?
  19. Shatkins seems like the type of guys to give a player they brought in all the way from Japan (after many successful years in the Japanese big leagues) a little more chance before they cut him, although, according to Fangraphs, he does have options, so they could send him to Rochester to work on his stuff. I expect someone like Waguespack to be sent down before Cole (has pitched 3 scoreless innings and no options).
  20. I thought they said on today's game broadcast that tomorrow is the deadline to trim the active roster to 28. So who goes ? I guess McKinney is a given. ETA: no way Alford gets through waivers (especially the Marlins right now), so I expect him to be gone before the end of this season
  21. Don't think I have seen this mentioned yet here: Daniel Bard, in his first MLB appearance since 2013, got the win after pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. He gave up 2 hits, and most importantly ZERO walks. It's a nice thing to see a guy come back from the dead like that. It reminds me of Steve Delabar back in the day (one of only a handful of Jays to pitch an immaculate inning).
  22. Well said! If the late inning BP guys have an off day, it is easy to nitpick and say 'so and so' would have better there. But having used 4 of their best relievers yesterday with Ryu only lasting 4.2 innings, today was not so easy to manage.
  23. If Yamaguchi is "garbage" why bother to bring him all the way over from Japan ?
  24. I looked at this closer and with Romano, Bass, Dolis, Giles and Cole having been used already (between games 1 and 2), and with Hatch and Kay scheduled for a 'piggyback start tomorrow' the options available at that point for fresh BP guys were : Gaviglio, Moran, Waguespack and Yamaguchi. I would have preferred Waguespack or Yamaguchi, especially the latter.
  25. Yeah and if not that will likely mean all the guys ahead of him on the SP depth chart are healthy and pitching well. Fingers crossed they all hold together for 60 games. I would sure like to see Shoemaker do well, that injury last season was so crushing.
