  1. Montoyo is a nice guy, a decent manager for a rebuilding team. But he isn't the right manager for a team with Championship aspirations. Time to move on.
  2. According to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred who hired an external law firm to independently investigate the allegation: "Having reviewed all of the available evidence from the now completed investigation, I have concluded that Mr. Alomar violated MLBÂ’s policies, and that termination of his consultant contract and placement on the MLBÂ’s Ineligible List are warranted." That they would take this drastic step before the case is proven in a court of law must mean that the evidence is pretty damning. Or maybe they're taking a zero tolerance policy after an ESPN report in January against the NY Mets for workplace sexual harassment. Jane Forbes Clark, Chairman of the Board at the Baseball Hall of Fame, said the Hall was "shocked and saddened" by Alomar's actions, but Alomar's plaque at the Hall, which depicts Alomar wearing a Blue Jays cap, will remain on display. PS: This topic goes beyond the general Jays discussion and really should be its own separate thread.
  3. End of an era. I have fond memories going back to the Championship days and before when I was a big fan in the late 80's early 90's listening to Tom Cheek (RIP) and Jerry Howarth on the radio when I couldn't catch it on TV. They described the play so succinctly as if you were watching or there at the stadium. Sometimes when I was watching a game on TV, I'd turn off the TV sound and listen to Tom and Jerry instead. Whenever they replay Joe Carter's infamous HR, it was alway's with Tom Cheek's voice: "Touch 'em all, Joe, you'll never hit a bigger home run in your life!" Listening to them was a comforting pastime, a joy, the sounds of summer.
  4. So sad, first Fernandez then Garcia - gone too soon. I recall Garcia was one of the key players who helped the Jays evolve from it's expansion era beginnings into a perennial winning team in the mid-80's that eventually led to the Championships in the early 90's. RIP. I read a good article from CBC that recaps nicely his days with the Jays: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/mlb/damaso-garcia-dead-blue-jays-mlb-1.5533138
  5. I was an ardent Blue Jays fan back in the '80's until their '93 Championship and signed up here to post this message. If I had to chose my favorite Jays player ever, it would be Tony. He approached the game quietly & methodically without fanfare with high work ethic and a star player both on offense and defense. He was one of the best Jays player ever, an excellent playoff performer and a key player on that 1993 Championship team. Of all the players on that Championship team, I was most happiest for Tony because of his long tenure as a Jays All Star, then getting traded, then coming back and being an instrumental player to earn that ring. A humble person, great role model, a Champion. Respect. RIP.
