  1. Both Chris Carter and Justin Smoak are below average players who, if playing full time, in any given year would be in competition to lead MLB in K's. Also neither player has positional flexibility. Therefore since we already have Smoak we do not need Carter. Neither player is in fact, desirable. Valbuena was the guy we should have signed. He can play 1b, 2b, 3b and bat left.
  2. Replacement does not equal average. I thought it was established in the other thread that a league average full time player is approximately 2 WAR?
  3. Am I missing something here? IMO, Chris Carter is f***in AIDS. 0.9 WAR last year despite leading NL in homers. Projected for 0.4 WAR in 2017 in steamer. He's a below average player who strikes out 33% of his career at bats. Yet some here want to give him like 8-10 million? We already have a guy like that for $4 million, who plays better defense and everyone hates him.
  4. Can't believe anyone would want Chris Carter, unless you want the team to break the franchise record for K's that we set last year.
  5. AND, the game is peanut-reduced!
  6. I'm interested in going to the Pitch Talks Chicago - do you think it will just be for people on the organized trip or do you think it be open to anyone?
  7. 100% agreed. Its as good as could have been expected going into the offseason. Now go get either Valbuena (can play several positions) and a lefty. I can deal with AJ as our backup catcher as a worst case scenario, and we still have 2 first round picks in this year's draft. And I love the Morales signing. Hindsight is 20/20 - we may have paid too much, but at the time of the signing 3/33 seemed appropriate. I don't understand the Zeke signing though, I'd have non-tendered him. Pompey is cheaper and has a higher upside. Would rather see him as our 4th OF this year. Overall I am happy so far if we sign Jose.
  8. No worries. I went to Wrigley 8 years ago and did the architectural tour - it was great! One thing I didn't do last time was the Wrigley Tour. I hear they offer it on game day during the season but with no clubhouse tour if its an afternoon game. I definitely want to try to do that this time around.
  9. I can see how it might have come off like that but actually I was replying to the poster who said that AirBNB is the way to go for affordable lodging with a bigger group. I was just saying I found the hostels to actually be cheaper than AirBNB after looking into it.
  10. I was considering doing the pitch talks thing too originally but I wasn't able to convince the group to go that route. I'll probably end up spending around $750. ($200 tickets for 2 games, $180 for 3 nights in hostels, $50 gas, $20 for my share of parking, plus probably 300 in booze/food over the 3 days. All things being equal I'd prefer the hotel but all I'm going to need is a place to crash so the cost savings of a hostel seems worth it to me. Hopefully the hostels are filled with fellow Jays fans.
  11. I put a deposit down back in November for group tickets, as I figured if I waited until single game tickets go on sale I'd probably strike out. They called me last week to say they were taking group orders now and I snatched up 15 tickets to each game. There might only be a dozen of us going so if I have a few left over I'd be willing to sell them for my cost. We're sitting in section 209 for Friday afternoon, and in the bleachers for Saturday afternoon. I was surprised that the bleacher seats cost quite a bit more! Leaning towards staying at Wrigley Hostel or Urban Holiday Lofts. I'm finding Airbnb is actually more expensive than those options. The hotels are starting at 300 per night CDN. The hostels are between $50 and $75 per night per person CDN. Should be a great party scene that weekend. I bet there will be at least several thousand Jays fans that make the trek.
  12. Anyone planning on heading to Wrigley for this series? I'm going down with a group and we are debating staying at a hostel near Wrigley since its considerably cheaper, and I imagine it will be filled with fellow road-tripping Jays fans. Curious to hear if any of you have had any experience staying at a hostel in Chicago as the hotel prices are pretty steep for that weekend! Going to the Friday and Saturday games. Might have a few extra unused tickets if a few guys drop out.
