  1. That might be what they're asking for it at a retail shop but you can easily find one for much cheaper on Ebay. I guess you have a point that it was signed at his peak, so that could theoretically add a little value. Even so, you can find authenticated signed cards on Ebay in the 10-20 dollar range (which is certainly not as desirable as a signed print, but you see what I'm getting at)
  2. Theoretically I'd be down with this, but I can imagine Lawrie acting like a nuisance and causing problems if he doesn't get regular playing time. Probably not worth the headache unless they can get him in the lineup every day.
  3. The most I can see anyone paying for it is 150$. If you lower it to that on Ebay you might get a few offers or a taker.
  4. It's a cool display piece, but the Gaston and Borders signatures are virtually worthless and the Carter one on it's own might fetch ya 15-20 dollars. The only one worth any money is the Robbie Alomar and even that you could probably pick up for about 50 dollars. All and all, you might be able to get 100-125 dollars out of it because of the display appeal, but it's really not all that valuable of a piece. Hope you find a buyer, Cheers.
  5. Eh...There's certainly more reasons to feel optimistic with Pearce than Smoak, but he's anything but a proven commodity.
  6. And if Smoak performs like I expect him to, Is Steve Pearce really good enough to be starting every day at first-base? That's a major question mark too.
  7. I just can't understand why though. He's a Travis Snider type of player. Highly drafted, given up twice, and there's always a team that thinks they can "fix" him. The mans 30 years old. I don't know what else is really left to see from him. I could understand if the Jays were just thin and he was the best option for the time being but the contract extension and devotion to him is bewildering.
  8. Is there some advanced metric that suggests Smoak is on the verge of breaking out? I was confounded by the decision to sign him to the multi-year extension but rationalized that he'd be used as a bench piece/back-up plan, but they really seem all in on this guy. I can't for the life of me understand why.
  9. I figured Pearce would be getting the majority of the starts, but the analyst was saying that Pearce wasn't expected to get much time there... Puzzling to say the least.
  10. My apologies but I haven't really been on top of what's going on with the Jays this off-season. I was watching Sportsnet the other night and they were talking about how Justin Smoak is the starting first basemen. What are the details on this? Are the Jays that strapped for payroll that he's the best option they can find? He's been below replacement level for 3 of his last 5 years and has never been above .0.7 in his career. 1B in the AL East should be a top producing position. I don't wanna hate on the new front-office, but they don't exactly seem like they're trying to improve on the teams 2 back to back ALCS appearances. Can someone fill me in?
  11. I realize that we can always add pieces at the all-star break, but we have to remember that there's going to be a ton of other wild-card/playoff hopefuls willing to overpay to bolster their bullpens.
  12. No problem. Not looking for a debate anyhow. But I mean, to rely on Barnes/Dermody/Floyd/Sparkman? As a fan I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I think you might be little optimistic with your evaluation.
  13. Heh, I quickly googled the bobcat to make sure I was spelling his name correctly and am surprised to learn that he's 64 years old. Dude looks good for his age.
  14. The only 2 guys I personally trust in the pen are Osuna and Biagini. Grilli's ancient and gave up a ton of deep fly-balls and hard-hit outs last year, Loups our only lefty and not a very consistent one at that and I really can't fathom why you're so confident in the guys you've been discussing. I reckon you're taking the Bob McCown approach to building a bullpen but I'd like to see management aiming for a championship. It's well within reach. We shouldn't take the risk of punting the bullpen.
  15. You're saying this is a reassuring thing? Look, maybe things get pieced together and work out, but this roster should be beyond hoping for lightning in a bottle. I'll be disappointed if they don't add a piece or 2 to the bullpen, but alas the options are now slim.
  16. The reports that Bautista is re-signing definitely helps qualm my nerves! I am still nervous about the bullpen and back-up catcher situation though. As we see bullpens being utilized more and more effectively the idea of winging together one becomes a lot more risky.
  17. I personally enjoy it. It's fun to see some talent that we don't usually see. And plus, it adds a little extra excitement before the start of the season. What's not to like for a ball fan?;)
  18. Hey now, I'm not saying I like the idea. There just seems to be some sort of love-affair between Bruce and the F.O.
  19. I'm happy! I think it's a good deal for both sides. Solves a lot of the OF woes for 2017 and gives Bautista a chance to bounce back and try to cash-in for one last contract. Guys a legend and it'll be great to have him back, even if for just 1 year.
  20. I was kind of hoping that we'd get him back but 10M is pretty steep. Not liking the idea of a Zeke/Upton LF.
  21. We have to remember that he played last year after missing the previous year with a major injury. It was inevitable that he was going to slow down. It'll be interesting to see how he does after having a year back under his belt. Could end up being a great deal for the Phils.
  22. It was a nice little display piece. A bunch of neighbor kids had that ball too. IIRC there's also a world series logo on the center of the ball itself right?
  23. It almost feels inevitable that Jay Bruce is gonna be a Jay
  24. It's a fake. I used to have the blue-ink one and oddly enough it came with the white-plastic base that your black-ink one is on. They are a misleading cause the blue ink even smudges but it's just a cheap reproduction from the Sears Christmas catalog.
  25. I bet they'll pick up Hannigan and all the Shapiro lovers will be praising it.
