  1. Just seen that TFC won the MLS, revenge for last year’s loss.
  2. I'd be very surprised if they kept both Gardner and Ellsbury as it'd be difficult to reset the luxury tax penalties once they've rounded out the roster.
  3. Yeah it's the obvious move, though as mentioned above Ellsbury is more likely to be kept than Gardner IMO.
  4. That's not really true - he's the public frontman and no doubt has a much bigger say in ownership decisions than a normal minority owner.
  5. Yeah I agree. Gardner is only signed for this season too at a relatively cheap $12m (including a $1m trade kicker). In a salary dump situation, even the Jays would be interested, but I think a contender with an outfielder need would give up an OK prospect for him.
  6. They'll likely rotate Ellsbury/Gardner (depending on who they keep), with Stanton and Judge for the DH.
  7. Without question. They need to trade at least one of Gardner and Ellsbury because of their salaries, but either would a very good 4th outfielder too.
  8. It would be good for baseball if Trout and Ohtani were in the playoffs.
  9. Angels have $2.315m left according to MLB.
  10. Yeah, though with no options left I think it was the right decision to move on.
  11. Some people will like him because if you don't follow every game closely, then see highlights with Goins making a good defensive play, then check the box score where he gets another RBI, then add that to he's been here for years (so must therefore love the team) and compare him to other players under performing and/or injured. I wouldn't blame someone for thinking like that. I would blame that person if on hearing he was let go, they don't then look at the stats and see he's actually a borderline 25th man defensive sub at best.

  13. Baltimore have been getting calls on Machado, while publicly saying they don't want to trade him. Perhaps those teams that are rebuffed then give the Jays a call.
  14. Yeah the Marlins should never have given Stanton a full no trade clause, the contract was already extremely player friendly. IMO full no trade clauses should only be optionally put in to get someone to sign at a hometown discount when the player is happy at that team.
  15. 100% - I'd be looking to trade Pearce (or Morales, but realistically Pearce is the one that another team might want).
  16. The AL Central is going to suck next year! Could be another 100 win season for Cleveland.
  17. Now that's a much more reasonable take! I agree, all things being equal it looks like he'd prefer a West coast team.
  18. If that is his point, then how can we possibly know that the answers to those points didn't factor into the shortlist? It's not like Ohtani shortlisted every West Coast team and no one else.
  19. Did you even read the memo you quoted? None of the bolded bits have anything to do with player development or being on the West Coast. In any case, it's hardly "a giant waste of time and resources" when every single team will already have scouting reports on Ohtani, and details on their own team that they use to woo any other free agent.
