Prior to this season I had zero interest in baseball. Figured the pace was way to slow and the game was filled with a bunch of guys who spent too much time spitting and scratching their balls. Athletes? Gimme a break. Nothing there worth wasting my time on. Then the Blue Jays - Canada's team - started hitting the news and I thought what the heck, why not take in a couple of games.
By the time the third game I was watched was over, I was completely and totally hooked. I had no idea that it was this exciting or that these guys really were athletes - shame on me. I whole-heartedly jumped on the wagon and never ever thought of jumping back off no matter how dire the situation appeared - actually, the more intense it became, the more my interest was peaked. I had to see what these guys would do with their backs against the wall. They never disappointed me and I never missed a single game. After they won the ALS against the Rangers, I went out and bought myself a Blue Jay's ball cap which I proudly wore everywhere. I talked about the team every chance I got. I was involved.
Watching the game last night was excruciating, they had come from behind so many times before surely they could do it again. I won't comment on the game because my knowledge of baseball is sadly lacking but I was with them all the way up to the final strike-out. I felt like crying but at the same time I couldn't help but think that this was a team that has most of the components necessary to take them all the way - they just need a few fixes here and there. They had such an outstanding season and I will be fan of theirs for all the years to come. Thank you Blue Jays.
