I thought the same last night. Anderson pitched 5 IP, by far his longest outing in a Blue Jays uniform. He did a fine job overall.
You either let the bullpen start with a clean inning, or don’t yank out Anderson after walking Moreland. The guy just gave you 15 outs, and you lost all faith in him after walking a guy that had his number. Montoyo just finds way of putting his guys in a position to fail when it comes to pitcher management. Font clearly didn’t have it going last night, it happens to all pitchers and Montoyo kept him in with bases loaded. Cole was dealt a bad hand, I don’t blame him one bit.
The bullpen is taxed for a reason, Montoyo uses 6-8 pitchers a game, keeps making bad decisions which led to extra-innings galore. No other team in baseball has more extra-inning games and late losses than the Blue Jays. How can you lose so many close and tied games with a top 5 bullpen? Not once or twice mind you.
We scored same amount of runs as Tampa, had a better ERA and pitched better than Tampa, and ended up 3-7 vs Tampa. Think about that for a minute and what that means.
If poor managerial decisions were tracked, Montoyo would be easily -3 WAR right now. Jays would be 17-11 instead of 14-14. Anyone that doesn’t see it hasn’t been watching.
