  1. Deiferson Barreto homers (1) on a line drive to left field. Dave Pepe scores. Angel Gomez scores. Three run homer for the other Barreto. Are there any more Barretos we can sign? Gotta have them all.
  2. Was just about to say that, you don't joke about a tragedy as painful as Adenhart's death. http://m.mlb.com/video/v4064409/oaklaa-highlights-from-nick-adenharts-final-start/?c_id=mlb R.I.P.
  3. And slowly, the Red Sox are creeping back into contention...
  4. Every manager who ever puts up a losing month should be fired, period.
  5. Mark Buehrle's career ERA in the 7th is still 4.23. Verlander's is 2.40, but that seems to be an anomaly since his 6th inning ERA is 3.73 and 8th inning 5.14. Bronson Arroyo: 3.78. So the first three I've looked up, two soft-tossers and one premium arm, don't seem to be as rapidly declining in effectiveness after the 6th as Dickey. This does make some sense: hitters will get used to the knuckle eventually, while Buehrle and Arroyo are very good at mixing things up and don't rely on velocity. But then Jered Weaver declines from 3.47 to 4.65 from the 6th to 7th innings. Possibly because hitters get used to his wacky delivery? I'd like to see average stats for the whole league per inning but I'm not a baseball-reference expert.
  6. Do you mean that Dickey's 7th inning numbers are an anomaly, or that this start was an anomaly?
  7. Tim Wakefield HR/FB% 2002-2011: 9.4% Jon Lester 2006-2014: 9.6%. Knuckleballers don't give up more home runs than normal pitchers, get your facts straight and don't say dumb stuff. There are two sides to a pitcher-hitter battle and you can't win all of them. Rather than rage at Dickey you should praise Jose Abreu and Alexei Ramirez, and also blame Gibby a bit for consistently leaving Dickey in too long. R.A. Dickey career ERA per inning: 4th: 3.81 5th: 3.85 6th: 4.40 7th: 4.71 In 2014: 4th: 2.81 5th: 9.39 6th: 2.38 7th: 11.81 In 2013: 4th: 3.97 5th: 1.60 6th: 5.52 7th: 7.47 Seems pretty clear to me they should pull Dickey before the 7th.
  8. It didn't work out badly, but he had only 6 AA starts and no triple-A starts before getting the call. Only 21 years old, which is the same age as Daniel Norris. So the idea that the Jays would keep Norris in the minors longer than necessary is kinda stupid.
  9. Jays have rushed plenty of pitchers to the bigs. Henderson Alvarez, Drew Hutchison come to mind immediately, pretty sure there are more.
  10. QO both Melky and Rasmus and happily take the draft picks in a nice 2015 draft class. Then proceed to sign Seth Smith and/or Chris Denorfia.
  11. lol Domonic Brown: http://m.mlb.com/video/v34037053/miaphi-ozuna-rips-an-rbi-double-to-open-the-scoring/?c_id=mlb Giving up three runs all by himself, Marlins won it 4-3.
  12. And you won't strike many hitters out in the majors by throwing so many balls off the plate. It'll just be the walks, magnified.
  13. The Pirates used to be a model of consistency also. Recently it seems they have fluctuated quite a bit in how much they suck.
  14. Nope, but it's a team from NL. My favorite National League Team is probably the Reds, though I've been watching more of the Mets and Marlins to see our old friends like Henderson Alvarez.
  15. Feyenoord.
  16. Finishes 6 IP, 1 BB, 7 K, 60% groundballs. Heck of a start. But only GCL.
  17. For now, I'm going to predict that this was the best control Smoral will show, and that the walks soon will be out of control, and more plentiful than the K's, again. I'd certainly love to be surprised.
  18. That's just speculation. I think it's likely his main focus was Pompey. I don't think Cole has built up trade value yet.
  19. Should be Norris' turn, yeah. Seems like Taylor Cole's weakness is his breaking ball. Brevard County stacked their lineup with right-handers and they're the only team that can touch Cole in the FSL.
  20. Taylor Cole pitching right now, FB at 92 mph and getting quite a few swings and misses on the changeup according to the broadcasters. Not his best command at the moment, though.
  21. Sean Reid-Foley's on the GCL roster. With Hollon and Murphy not pitching and Brentz unable to throw strikes, it would be nice to have a 2014 Draft pitcher step up and do something exciting.
  22. I don't like how many balls in the air he gives up. He gets some strikeouts, but not enough to justify the hard contact he allows. Will get in trouble at AA, if not at high-A, unless he improves.
  23. Matt Smoral 2.0. If they hadn't fixed Norris' delivery we would have quite the collection of 'lefties who can't find the strikezone'. Here's hoping Conner Greene continues to pitch like that at higher levels. Strange that they gave Evan Smith one inning of work, surely he'll be starting games eventually?
  24. Well I guess that makes some sense. I rarely stay up to watch the games though, because I usually regret it when I do. I get too emotionally invested easily. And MLB's condensed games are a really nice way of watching most of the action the next morning. I also don't have to hear Buck and Pat say stupid stuff. Once a month is probably my limit for commentators as stupid as Buck and Pat.
