If you're talking about from an emotional stand point I'm fine with it. If you're talking about value it depends. I mean he's at an age where production can drop off a table and he's had more injuries lately. He does bring OBP which the O's really need. If he's available late in the offseason and our FO has still not resolved the RF position I'd take a shot at him. He's a wildcard, he could continue to get worse or he could put up very good #'s and be the difference between making the playoffs or not. I think I tend to lean toward a safer route as it is risky. Perhaps trade from BP depth such as Brach, or even Britton or Machado.
As for Trumbo I don't think it makes sense. As good as he's been he is a huge negative in the fielding dept. and if he DH's his value takes a hit as well from not contributing fielding. I mean even with his 47 HR season and you go by fangraphs he still only posted a 2.2 fWAR. Even putting him at 1st and moving Davis to RF where Davis is still capable I don't like because of the large amount of money you are tying into him. The O's were around 150M or something for their entire team salary and they're players are not getting any cheaper. On top of it the farm has been neglected. The Orioles need flexibly and paying Trumbo 60M-80M$ negates that. Also we need to be able to sign Machado to an extension and he is way more important of course putting up 6+ WAR seasons and he's not going to come cheap. Of course if we decide not to give Machado the extension he needs to be traded this offseason or at the deadline for a haul. I'd prefer to keep him but get the deal done already if you're going to do it (and unfortunately the O's have been known to drag their feet). Anyway back to Trumbo, I enjoyed seeing him mash moonshots and he's a nice guy, but it just doesn't make sense. Perhaps internally Mancini can handle 1st and Davis can go to RF or you can platoon in RF or acquire a RF in a trade.
That's what I like. You'll get a lot of responses on this board and with that comes a lot of different perspectives. And feedback is good when you haven’t seen as much of a player, even with all the stats that are available.
That's how I roll. I like to make jokes but am also not afraid to be self depreciating.
