My two cents is I commend Bautista for airing his disdain. I mean sure it was juvenile, immature, and unprofessional but as the leader of the team he represented the players in the clubhouse and a large majority of the fans who were pissed off at the front office for coming up lame this ENTIRE year. Imho good for him because they needed to be called out, condescended to, and mocked for their ineptness after repeated proclamations of "If we ever get into a position to compete the money will be there when the time comes". Well the time came and we got into that position but they didn't do sweet f*** all! At the end of the day that's the bane of the frustration from the players and like minded fans and I totally get it.
You can break it down in regards to the market and the limited amount of players available, overpaying for the players who were available, gutting the farm and destroying the future for a team that's potentially mediocre, looking at the teams who didn't do anything and are surging now and alternatively the teams that did do something who are now struggling.. but the fact remains this team was in the AL East fighting for a pennant and 3 games up in the Wildcard race on the Jul 31st deadline, this for a team who had not even had a sniff of the playoffs in the past 2 decades.
Front Office dropped the ball, they should have recognized an opportunity was there and seized the moment to capitalize on the momentum this team had built up and all of the excitement in the city. In any business windows of opportunity present themselves and it's all about the timing, it was stupid to still be in the mindset of being hamstrung by the failures of 2013 when the landscape had shifted for this team on Jul 31st 2014. We'll never know how things would've went if they got someone but its pretty obvious how it's gone without them getting someone. Should this team have rallied together and stepped to do their job since they're all millionaires and paid professionals? Sure. But the reality is the morale was effected in the clubhouse/fanbase by the broken promises of management. Promises that I doubt were made for all of the other teams on a current upswing who don't play in the AL East where you have minimal windows of opportunity. Did KC's GM get everyone's hopes up by saying money was there when it wasn't? If he had maybe there would've been a big letdown there instead of here, but thankfully for them I think they always knew where they stood. If anyone's to blame here for the bad culture, etc. it's starting from the very top..
