  1. Tell me how you would go about fixing MLB baseball or do you even think it needs fixing? Does MLB need more year to year parody? Are you sick of the fact large market teams, don't have to feel the consequences of poor decisions like smaller market teams? Would it be a hard cap, revenue sharing, rookie contract, rookie contract changes, luxury tax etc. There is a bit of talk in the Trout extension thread, got me thinking
  2. Here is a complete video, May 20, 1989 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9yfCLbPfI8 Great intro
  3. My 7 year old asked me about my favorite none Blue Jay tonight, Cal Ripken, and he wanted to see a video on Cal, found a short video from This Week In Baseball, I almost here the noise of batting practice while I watched it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDlwZLG3LUI
  4. Who else wishes they would bring back This Week In Baseball, the show was a big part of my memories when attending games as a kid. I know it was never the same after Mel Allen passed, but if done right I think it would work.
  5. I'm saying dump the purse on the table and go nuts - Yankee style, it's only money, Rogers and the Jays make it everyday
  6. Rogers has to loosen the purse strings, we made profits with the highest payrolls in the late 80's and early 90's, Yanks, Sos and Dodgers make money with their larger then life payroll
  7. OK, I'll break the bank for him next year as a free agent, I think he would be available for less, they know he is leaving and want something in return
  8. I'd go to the Board and ask for Beeston's head, I wonder if Beeston makes the decisions and AA is more truly like an assistant GM
  9. I would QO: Josh Johnson - with the hopes he turns it around Sign: Mashiro Tanaka - High price, and risk, but increased fan base would make it a wise decision Trade For: David Price Rotation of Price, Dickey, Tanaka, Buehrle and Johnson/Or Young Gun
  10. I believe we still have the fastest grounds crew in baseball
  11. I liked that they signed a Hall Of Fame Pitcher, this off season
  12. I would hope he wants to be in the starting rotation in the BIGS, if he said he wanted to be the ace in New Hampshire I would be worried
  13. I agree zero true expectations, but when they drafted him a second time, thought maybe there was some raw skills or something there, and thought he would be a fan favorite cause of his dad
  14. as far as 1993 call ups I think that was the year Rob Butler came up and had a great September, showed a bunch of hustle and hit a few doubles I think, but never amounted to anything else
  15. David Wells is a great example, man was he dependable
  16. Shawn Green leaving bothered me, why lie to a fan base, just say its about the money, not I want to go to a more diverse city
  17. We have a post about players whom have not lived up to their full potential and hype Why not list players who played for the Jays, but left and went onto great things Jeff Kent - 5 time all star, NL MVP Reed Johnson - I have always thought he was a great ball player to watch play Fred McGriff - I know we saw some his power, but he had a great career elsewhere ( I know Carter and Alomar came the other way ) Chris Carpenter - No Explanation needed Danny Ainge - He turned out to be a pretty good ball player ( wrong sport, but I wonder about if he choose baseball ) Cecil Fielder - Man could he hit a baseball John Olerud - I know we got a lot of his productive years
  18. Travis Snider, Rob Ducey, Ricky Romero, Derek Bell, and to tell you the truth a bit Jonathon Fernandez (although I enjoy watching him here in Barrie)
  19. I was trying to figure out what going into the playoffs means to the cost per win/game Almost like adding a 20 million player for free, and it doesn't include the increased revenue from going into the playoffs, pennant run
  20. May be useless, but I was wondering so I made myself a spreadsheet Rank Team Payroll Wins Cost Per Win Cost Per Game Post Season Cost Per Total Games 1 New York Yankees 228,835,490 85 2,692,182 1,412,565 0 1,412,565 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 216,597,577 92 2,354,321 1,337,022 6 1,289,271 3 Philadelphia Phillies 165,385,714 73 2,265,558 1,020,899 0 1,020,899 4 Chicago White Sox 119,073,277 63 1,890,052 735,020 0 735,020 5 San Francisco Giants 140,264,334 76 1,845,583 865,829 0 865,829 6 Los Angeles Angels 127,896,250 78 1,639,696 789,483 0 789,483 7 Detroit Tigers 148,414,500 93 1,595,855 916,139 6 883,420 8 Toronto Blue Jays 117,527,800 74 1,588,214 725,480 0 725,480 9 Chicago Cubs 104,304,676 66 1,580,374 643,856 0 643,856 10 Boston Red Sox 150,655,500 97 1,553,149 929,972 16 846,379 11 Washington Nationals 116,056,769 86 1,349,497 716,400 0 716,400 12 Texas Rangers 114,090,100 91 1,253,737 704,260 0 704,260 13 Cincinnati Reds 107,491,305 90 1,194,348 663,527 1 659,456 14 St. Louis Cardinals 115,222,086 97 1,187,857 711,247 17 643,699
  21. Not sure if this was done right, but he hopes it works right
  22. Best news of the off season
  23. Heres some numbers that show we a large market, high profit team, with a small market budget, money should not be the issue here, we need management and owners that care more about winning With averaging just under 32K in attendance last year, up from 25K in 2012, and an average ticket price of just over $100, each game saw an increase of 700,000 or $29,400,000 in ticket revenue, add in good tv contracts, top 5 merchandise sales and money should be no object
  24. With the big attendance increases, and tv ratings seen last year, the Jays must see what hype did for the teams pockets last year, why cant they see what the benefit of hype and winning would do. Large fan base, 4th largest market in NA and we have a line up of starters that is rivaled by the lowly Royals. Maybe they have a plan of using 10 starters this year and they plan on filling the rotation with 10 number 5's, that has to be it
  25. I wish they would have more games on the radio, especially during the week, don't get me wrong, love to watch the boys in spring, but love to hear it on the radio, can't wait almost time to bust out the shorts
