  1. A lot of off days this month too. I also think we could get by with a 6 man pen. I'd like to see Thole and Pompey up. Although Thole last time I checked was on the DL.
  2. Estrada would be going on 3 days rest in this scenario. Probably not going to happen.
  3. They can avoid this if they start Buehrle game one against Oakland and Hutch goes game two. Buehrle would then get the Yankees that game. If they don't do it, they're crazy IMO.
  4. I'm surprised Thole hasn't been called up. Thought that was in the plans for Dickey's start tomorrow. Martin can't catch the knuckleball properly
  5. 2 wins minimum, 3 wins max. One of two results. The Yanks ain't ready for what's gonna hit them.
  6. I can't agree at all. You old guys? I'm one of you. And in 88 we were good and 89 we made the playoffs and again in 91 and of course then 92 and 93 happened. In other words, 87 was bad but a lot of good was on the way. Meanwhile it's been 22 straight years of desolation. The teams Gillick put together competed every single season and won 89 games in down years. It was Camelot.
  7. Dude, those were two years that ended badly. You want real pain? Let's talk about the last 22. This situation was already out of hand ten years ago. At least I had 1983 to 1993.
  8. Well, Boxcar, these two links are just for you. Enjoy. http://articles.latimes.com/1987-10-18/sports/sp-15301_1_detroit-tigers http://www.mlive.com/whitecaps/index.ssf/2012/06/bill_madlock_recalls_the_grind.html Since you might not even have been alive then, I'll cut you some slack. Trammell and Madlock, on the other hand, were there. Something else I found too about the collapse in 87. Great f'n quotes, "There'd be hysteria in Toronto" from Sparky, and "Should I buy him a candy bar" from Madlock. Slide was dirty though, everyone knows it. https://www.detroitathletic.com/blog/2014/06/13/final-weeks-87-season-saw-tigers-blue-jays-battle-exciting-finish/
  9. And after they caught us, Detroit had nothing left in the post season. The Twins destroyed them in 5, something like an 86 win team. Detroit won 98. We won 96 and got nothing. Whoever asked what burned out means, it kinda means the same thing as blowing your load and having nothing left afterwards. Before this is dismissed by some as BS, I believe Alan Trammell basically said the same thing in some quote I read twenty years ago. They had nothing left against the Twins.
  10. I only see the Yankees three times on your list, not four
  11. Jays76, Would you take the one game wild card right now?
  12. I see your point, and if we go 10-3 against them or better, then I stand corrected.
  13. It's out of our hands, depends on the Yankees. If they tear it up, no, we won't catch them. All we got to do is take care of our own business, get into the Wildcard game, then show the league who their Daddy is. I ain't afraid of no f***ing wildcard game, or any team in the AL.
  14. I don't think you're looking at this the right way. You don't make a trade like this and think, well, now we have a shot at the 2nd WC. We might make it now. No, you make a trade like this when you think, we're in the playoffs with this trade. This move is putting us over the hump and we're in the wildcard game, barring catastrophic injury. I think there has to be that level of certainty when you let a prospect like Norris go for all of 11 or 12 starts. If we miss the playoffs altogether, AA misjudged the talent on the field and it's a bad move. If Price puts us over the top then the misery of 22 f***ing years subsides a little and we're watching playoff games for the first time since I was in grade f***ing ten. Can't win the World Series if you're not in the playoffs, it's as simple as that. And I'm not sure we can get there without Price.
  15. I think we make the playoffs after this trade. Therefore I approve.
  16. Let's sweep the Twins! You know how you get to 95 wins?? By winning baby!! Let's sweep these mofos out of town!! It's 1993 revisited!! You can't stop this team!!
  17. Good call, that's GD right. I got no prejudice against the catcher position per se, but I was disappointed to see this guy drafted where he was. I thought the board would be up in arms about a catcher being drafted so high, but was relieved to see that wasn't the case. If a catcher can mash then that's the pinnacle right there. If not, well, then you got an average guy like Navarro, which still is enough to win.
  18. My favorite player has been Juan Francisco. The biggest surprise of the team. Mark B is second
  19. Catcher, to me, and maybe I'm showing you my age in the face of all these analytics, but who cares about catcher? The Jays never had a elite catcher through their glory years of 83 to 93 and I can't recall many more since then. It would seem to me that most of their value comes from framing pitches, then by calling games, yet maybe those two should be reversed. After that would come throwing out base runners. Anyway, not many catchers in the history of the game have hit worth a lick. Well board analytic managers, give me your best. How important is catching perceived today?
  20. Whatever man, we're all fans.
  21. Convo?? I do not know. Mac Outlaw? Some guy who swears and asks questions. Olerud363? Some loser with a fast computer who posts foolishness on this message board. That's god damn right. Let's TCB and handle these Cardinals in our home park. Then all three of us can go to a strip club and celebrate the series win.
  22. High school? That was about twenty years ago for me. Would not at all go back. Couldn't wait to leave, university too.
  23. Convo needs to back off and enjoy what this is. Who is Andrew Stoeton? Who cares? Who is Convo? Who is Mac Outlaw? Who is Olerud363? Point is, we gotta get while the getting is good. If I was in the area I'd be in the Td zone watching all these Cardinal games followed by drinks wherever it is I go to afterwards, in that Irish basement pub by the Dome. Let's take two of three from these mofos and ride the wave. The AL East is there for the taking, when's the last time it's been so vulnerable?
  24. Never heard of them. Just like I've never heard of you. If you don't like swearing, get off the board, straight up.
  25. Boys and girls, I have no idea what the f*** this is. Reason tells you it won't continue. Logic tells you it has to end. No rotation featuring Dickey, Stroman and Happ can play .600 baseball. This lineup can't continue scoring 6 runs a game. Who the f*** is Juan Francisco and what have you done with the replacement level scrub we signed that no one wanted? How has million old Mark Buehrle morphed into a top 3 pitcher in the game? Where is the Melky Cabrera we saw from last year? Tolleson, Pillar, Kratz, are they seriously getting the job done vs left handed pitching? When's that going to end? Seriously, when is this all going to end? That's the pessimist in me. But you know what, maybe we'll keep mashing. Maybe we'll keep mashing and mask our pitching deficiencies. We'll ride this sick lineup all the way to the post season. How many games did the bullpen blow in April? We could be 40-21 now if not for Santos and all those bullpen shenanigans early on the year. That's a pretty big f***ing sample size, over one third of the way in. I got news for you. There are 101 games left and a .500 record gets us 88 wins and a playoff birth, if not a division title. It's getting early late boys and I am absolutely motherf***ing loving life. Who's ready to beat the motherf***ing Cardinals? Let's get this s*** on!!!
