  1. That Alomar home run turned everything around. Without that, they might not have won either championship.
  2. Joe Carter was instrumental in those World Series. Whatever happened later wasn't his fault. He was definitely bad though, but so was everyone else.
  3. I remember listening to ballgames on CJCL 1430 when they carried the games. They were hardly ever on TV then, maybe only on the weekend on CTV. The year was 1983 and I was five years old. The team was good every single year until I got into high school. I had no idea what a bad Toronto Blue Jay baseball team looked like. Then Gillick left and it all went to hell.
  4. Jayzfan is gonna win this thing with 95. Nice call.
  5. Colabello getting some love, alright alright.....
  6. A criticism of me is a criticism of Colabello, no two ways around it.
  7. I understand what the predictive stats say, I get it. It's not difficult to grasp. My view is that until things start going backwards, I'm going to roll with the guy who is OPS'ing .890, or whatever it is. Others obviously place more emphasis on what they think should have happened, not what actually did happen. I don't think that's fair to Cola though, nor do I think that's the way playing time should be decided. It's not exactly a small sample size anymore. We can go back and forth on this all day, I quote his OPS, you quote his BABIP or lack of a proven track record and ultimately it's all just words on a message board. I just hope he keeps raking.
  8. How's that? I'm not following here.
  9. So what are they criticizing? His high BABIP? His stats? Or some of his stats, because they surely couldn't criticize his OPS?
  10. Ain't that the truth. It can't last, regression to the mean, he's not that good.... Yeah, maybe it's all true, but don't criticize a player for something that hasn't even happened yet. The man has flat out hit all year. Results and Production are hell of a nice things to have on a baseball diamond.
  11. How many tickets did they sell? This one this year actually has some meaning.
  12. When's the last time anyone looked at a seating plan like that? 1993? It's about f***ing time!!
  13. He'd have to start two or three games in the major leagues and have success to be put in the playoff rotation, in my opinion. Great that his pitches look crisp, but I want to see results first.
  14. Let's just see how Stroman does first before putting him in the playoff rotation.
  15. Biggest pussy in the league
  16. I think he was kind of saying that. My point is that a game winning home run is 1 run. What about the other 7 that came before? Are they less valuable? They didn't contribute to the outcome of the game? Talking about it coming off a better pitcher isn't necessarily the case. A run in the first off of a starter, for example. Starters are better pitchers generally speaking. That's why they start.
  17. Player A hits a game winning home run, his team wins 8-7. Player A's teammate, Player B, drove in the first six runs of the game. Somehow Player A's contribution was more "valuable" than Player B's just because it was high leverage and clutch? I don't think so.
  18. If Delabar don't like it, he can go back to teaching high school, or whatever he was doing. If he were a top 7 bullpen arm he'd be here. He isn't.
  19. Olerud, are you talking to me? I never said Trout was obviously the MVP. I said Donaldson obviously wasn't when he finished fourth in the race two years ago.
  20. 2.5 up on New York, 5.5 on Balt
  21. This winning streak has masked a bunch of inefficiencies and the biggest of which has been a limp, inopportune offense. This board has disappointed me by failing to bring up this central fact. I want so see a Win today brought on by the bats to make up for the central conundrum. We're better than this, let's prove it.
  22. I disagree. I'm talking about having a legitimate shot at winning it. 8th place is miles out and while the 4th place finish sounds nice, he only received one first place vote. Trout and Cabrera were the only ones in the discussion that year.
  23. I think unless JD clearly takes it from Trout, then the writers are going to give it to Trout. Trout has a legit case that he should have won it three times in a row, and he's only won it once. Don't underestimate the "make up" vote. JD is new to the discussion, he has to pay his dues. This also assumes that the Angels make the playoffs. If they don't, then JD's path just got a lot easier.
  24. Don't outthink yourself a la Cito in 91. It's obviously Price. The Dickey effect might not even exist.
