    It sucks real hard that the one year I can't watch the Raptors (I'd usually watch every game) they actually contend (albeit in a really weak conference). For those that have watched, how are players like Ross, DeMar and J-Val progressing (plus any others that have been solid contributors), I've seen a lot of praise for them but since I can't watch I don't know jack s***. Is Val like the anti-Bargs? Since the Gay trade I've read that the team has been less selfish, I would imagine that he took a lot of possessions/shots for the team.

    I really don't get why people wouldn't want to go to Toronto, it's a great city, good (perhaps I should say large) fanbase and clearly much better (as a city) than much worse cities like Detroit (though they have a better baseball history) or Cleveland (no offense to anyone who lives there). Maybe it's a stereotype that players have built thinking that Canada = hockey 24/7 or some wrongly made perception about the country itself.

    As a person that has experienced two education systems, what do you find so hard/annoying/boring about Geography, I personally like it; then again, the only real course I've ever strongly disliked has been visual arts, I like just about every subject.

    I am indeed 16. And to go with the seeming thread topic in the past few pages, I'm also a year ahead in school so I'll be graduating earlier than everyone at my age, it feels good to be me, I'm hoping to take Computer Science.

    My reaction exactly. This makes sense from different views, first of all, it's a business, you lose your best player for a year (or more) because of a collision, bad for business, really simple. From an entertainment point of view, the same, while the collision at the plate may be an exciting play, is it worth one collision every so often with high risk for injury for both players involved? Or would you rather have stars like Posey playing all year long if they can avoid silly injuries like getting run over at home? The catching position is hard enough on the body, if you add in the risk of players getting run over, the catching position would become even thinner. It may seem a bit black and white, but would you rather Buster Posey playing as many games as possible in a very valuable position, or would you rather him getting run over and limiting his future not only as a catcher, but also as a player?

    Sad to see Halladay go, but pure class as always to retire as a Jay. He was my favourite player growing up even though we couldn't even watch Jays game at the time, I wear the number 32 when playing any sport (mainly baseball of course) because of him. Outstanding pitcher and professional, hope as well he comes back as a pitching coach and certainly wish he gets inducted into the Hall, and like many have said been one of the most dominant pitchers in your generation will go a long way towards his consideration.

    Like someone else mentioned in another thread, this isn't basketball, even if you get a guaranteed no-brainer once in a generation player with your your first pick A LOT could go wrong, just look at the Nationals, one year Strasburg, another Harper, and then another Rendon, those three players don't make a team in baseball, nothing is ever certain that they will live up to potential, plus you add in the additional high injury risk for pitchers (as did happen with Strasburg) and really a high pick is not really any different from a middle-of-the-round quality pick, and obviously the Rays have good scouts, which is another reason why their FO is at the top of the league.

    Why would the Cardinals want to trade Shelby Miller? I get they have a lot of young pitchers, but still, the kid's a stud.

    Wainwright's awesome. While I'd rather Pittsburgh win a Wainwright vs Kershaw duel in the NLCS would be amazing to say the least.

    I agree on all points, specially Hutch and Morrow (this also applies to the other thread). With MB I think AA will retain him given that as mentioned he was our best and is always a very reliable starter, but it wouldn't be shocking if he did take some offers, considering that he might be going hard after a certain FA/IFA or might look upon the possibility that one or both of Stroman/Hutch will start the season in the big club.

    I literally didn't read the article or the OP, but hasn't there been multiple mentions that TheScore's blog wasn't bought by Rogers? So go ahead, keep calling out kids, no one talked about wars, politics, media or the freaking environment, and what the f*** does that even have to do with one sportswriter's blog?

    Without including FA/trade additions, I think Buerhle and Dickey are the obvious pencil in guys (barring injury), then if Johnson comes back he probably has another guaranteed spot. I think Morrow has to be given another shot, I don't think you can write him off after one bad year (following a very good one), however it is concerning that it does seem like he is injury prone, and you never want that in your rotation. Depending on Johnson that leaves one trade/FA/IFA (if we do acquire any I don't think AA goes nuts and gets another one, unless we have another TJS mid-offseason); the 5th starter would probably start out as Happ or Redmond, but Stroman and Hutch will likely be knocking on the door early on.

    While I agree about not trading prospects for one year players, I think with Bailey's stuff he would probably translate fairly well to the AL East. I'd be on boat with acquiring him on a reasonable deal + extension. I know it's a bad example, but a lot of people also questioned if Mat Latos would translate from Petco to GABP, guys with good stuff are meant to pitch well in any division, with the obvious consideration of park factors, league and competition but still, I think Bailey would pitch well here in the AL East (sub-4 ERA). He's not an ace, and is a clearly better pitcher than the guys we currently have, but I think in a rotation with a bonafide ace you could still pencil in Bailey as a solid #2/very good #3. Even if you're still concerned with his HR rates, he pitched 200+ innings, K/9 of 8.57 this year and BB/9 of 2.33 (I would compare them to his career #s but fangraphs opens very slowly here, I'm going off the WC GDT).

    No one expected him to be the least valuable player in MLB, same as how no one expected Melky to be this awful, and people were ok with his deal IIRC.
