  1. If he was getting a monetary kickback it would be far outside the norm.
  2. Ya, ARod tried to bribe a guy to not release info on him during a federal investigation. That's a lot worse than making an obviously fake website.
  3. A few extra games for trying to bribe witnesses and purchase evidence.
  4. Now how does impact the NYY and Tanaka....
  5. Risk management is as important as asset management in sports. s*** happens and you need to be prepared for it. Furthermore if you truly believe that a combination of FA signings and the Jays current depth can get them through a season with +200IP of low 4 ERA/FIP ball then move Buehrle. That is exactly what he will provide but he actually has a brutal contract.
  6. Steamer is crap. It's nice that Fangraphs lists a bunch of projections but, the way people preach Steamer as gospel now got tiring very fast. I don't like Oliver either but FWIW Oliver is projecting; JA Happ - 1.6 WAR Jason Vargas - 1.4 WAR Now how would people feel if AA went out and signed one of these guys to a multi year deal? How would you feel on a 1yr deal at Vargas' $8M AAV? The Jays have already given up assets for Happ, there is no reason to trade the depth that you paid to acquire unless you are replacing it with top end talent.
  7. Sign a front end guy first and I'd agree but not as things stand now. Hutch is going to get MLB innings whether he starts the year in AAA or the MLB. Having a guy with options and talent knocking on the door in AAA isn't a negative at all.
  8. If $5.4M stops Rogers from getting a decent 2B it's a crying shame and the fan base should be outraged. Wins 89-93 are the most valuable in baseball.
  9. The worst part is you'd be trying to win a scratcher instead of the powerball.
  10. There are a couple names I think they should still be in on but, scrap all the guys with huge injury concerns. The last thing the Jays need is another arm hanging on by a thread.
  11. At the end of the day the trade was Wojc, Perez and Comer for Happ. Comer is the only guy that may come back to bite AA but he's so far away and carries a ton of risk.
  12. Aaron Laffey? Don't think there are too many other options at that price.
  13. We have a couple guys, Hutch and Stroman who could be significantly better than Happ and a bunch of guys who are similar but with far more risk. The whole point is to have enough depth to be 7-8 starters deep and at this point the Jays need Happ to be one of those guys. If they add a starter or two he can be shipped out but, right now they can't afford to lose decent MLB innings.
  14. Averaging 5.1 is different than not being able to go in to the 6th. He pitched 7 multiple times last season and has 3 career CG.
  15. And then scramble and make a bad move for Happ-lite when you need the depth.
  16. f*** Steamer and Oliver though, two of the worst mainstream projection systems.
  17. The issue isn't with Happ though, it's the piss poor asset and budget management by AA and co. If they didn't have 25% of their payroll tied up in Buehrle and Reyes (and no way to move them and compete) Happ's contract would never come in to question.
  18. He'll get up over 180IP in 2014 I'd imagine but, most of those innings will be in AAA. Then he'd have to break camp with the Stros in 2015 which isn't that likely.
  19. Wojc is still building innings at 24, he wont pitch a full season in the majors until 2015 at the earliest and 2016 (his age 26 season) is far more likely since he has options and isn't that good.
  20. I've been saying this for awhile now but acquiring Happ wasn't a bad move. Giving up assets for Lyon and Carpenter was inane.
  21. Nah but, Happ is a fine option in the 5 spot. Considering the LD to the head averaging 5.1IP/start is pretty decent.
  22. Don't get me wrong comparatively speaking the West Coast in general has a fair bit of the population who is of Japanese decent. However, if you've gone you know it's Mexican food central, not sushi central. Up and down the West Coast there is good sushi, fresh sushi is the best sushi after all, it isn't limited to LA.
  23. You've clearly never been to LA. It's all Mexican food and salads.
