Well, if you look at it from when he came up I would be inclined to agree. But I looked it up when someone mentioned it on here and JPA is sitting in the middle of the pack for pitch framing this year. So you would be looking at him as a .85 fWAR/500 PA guy.. and again, for $500k that's not a franchise sinker. Up to the other players to step up.
As far as his "cERA" having a lot to do with him (I didn't know you guys would go there).. I mean, MB for instance who makes $18m/year and has been around the league is going to let JPA dictate how the game is going to go? He's not going to shake him off whenever he wants?.. Same with JJ and the others.. it's a veteran staff and the gameplan on attacking the hitters is a team effort.
Edit: I will admit Im a stats amateur though. I did see JPA in the middle of the pack after thehurl mentioned it but if theres data out there suggesting otherwise, I could be mistaken
