  1. I would love to see the data on how many hs arms taken after say the 12th overall pick until end of say second round.. So we exclude the blue chip pegged franchise-SP the Jays have never drafted in AA's tenure. They are a diff breed. But hs arms with major upside between 12 overall say to end of Round 2. Wonder what % of thosE guys ever put up a 2.5 WAR season.. Or two such seasons. I wont toss a number out of my rear end but i bet its pretty low.
  2. For arguments sake, lets just say AS is a shark or maybe slightly better in 3 years. Exactly what are you projecting around him in 3 years to say it would not be better to add to roster this year and next? AA has a brief history of poor draft stategy and development. Zero position prospects of note most likely. Lawrie..good glove, avg bat.. All the money mostly off the books as players will be too old but it would be a total rebuild. Jays got lucky to have JB and Edwin fall into their lap..should build around them before we get to a 6 year Houston cycle
  3. I really think Cubs will move Samar if they exhaust all their cards trying to extend him. Especially after the remaining FA SP sign. They have no shot at competing next year and Samar's value will drop dramatically with only one year of control. Hmm..of course maybe they deal him at deadline this year for same return
  4. I dont see the slightest issue with Jimi asking for $17-20m per. His market value is prob 4/56-4/60.. His agent wouldnt be doing his job if he wasnt trying to squeeze some desperate sucker for more
  5. I think most people want Samar to come with extension. Personally even if Jays got an option added for a 3rd year, i would do it. Thats 3 years at a good price. As someone mentioned, we would all be content if Sanchez became like Samar in three years..theres also the chance he washes out.
  6. Im not even big making comparisons unless there is precise reasons to do so. Its like if a guy coming up has ho-hum stuff but good control, people used to be like "look at Greg Maddux".. I mean.. Maybe a guy succeeds like that but what about the 50 that dont? I think you need to look at the skill set..soft tossing lefty in his prime..nothing notable in his secondary stuff..and make a realistic projection from that.. If he loses 1 or 2mph in year or two hes total s*** But if theres something to the whole deception thing..idk..i havent seen him pitch to know what else he brings to the table outside the skill set. Honestly i was much more excited about Cecil coming up. Not that i thought Cecil was special..just maybe not a non-guy
  7. Yeah i fig'd that was the deal. But i dont know if it has to be either, or... There can be some mix without "dumbing it down".. Not like you need to pimp RBIs and sell out.. Just would be good to mix in some quality opinionated pieces that dont heavily rely on saber to quantify their point. Maybe you guys do that already though..idk
  8. I concede i dont know much beyond the basic skill set, which im not a fan of and the odds would prob side with me.. But as Jay fan i hope theres something he can do to separate himself from the Joe Schmoes' with ho-hum stuff
  9. Idk.. Im not big on him either. You pitch strikes in the minors you can expect some reasonable success.. But sitting 89-90 in your prime without an arsenal.. I dont see him having a career much better than say Brad Mills in the bigs Anyways, i dont think its good for your team if hes a Top 5 prospect
  10. I wonder if being known as being saber-heavy is a good thing for max. mass appeal. But on the other hand, its dedication to the niche gives it some uniqueness as well. So idk. I havent read many (actually none) articles so i dont know how it all meshes but i know most authors are saber heavy and i saw this comment.. Im sure its prob something juiced thought over. Maybe it can be like the tv shows that clean up at the Emmys but the ratings are sketchy...lol.. Joking.. I know theyre doing good work bases on all the shout outs
  11. Samar= good #2 in like 80% of rotations
  12. Which is why their depth is less important. Your depth doesnt serve to lower your staff ERA. If they can maintain it, thats ideal
  13. Ha. Yeah i didnt know that was the case. Sometimes the Ivy League kind of guys end up with the worst prob because they are overconfident they can beat the system:) Maybe dont start down that road then..lol.. But if youre game, i am too. Will see where he signs. If its Jays im backimg out
  14. I think the big diff is between a mlb #4 SP (like a Wandy or something) and a guy that "projects" to be that..almost as a ceiling
  15. I want to get some friendly acfion for the season next year. $10 Jimi's FIP is at or under 3.60. I know youre not big on him. You down?
  16. its no doubt an interesting concept but i dont know if it'd be beneficial. I mean if the team had a three run lead from the 7th on..obviously doesnt matter.. But say they're by two and bases are loaded in 7th, no outs.. But then you still need someone to pitch all or some of eigth and then 9th. What ive always said about the 9th is its a different environment. Lots of pinch hitters/runners and everyones focus is more intense. So you would most likely have to use a few guys (loogy when need and such)..but they obviouly arent Kimbrell trying to keep tight lead that Kim hypothetically kept Also lets not forget that anyone brought into a critical situation in the 7th on is prob on the mound because of a preferable matchup. Even if its one batter I guess if you pick your situation, that would be ideal..just not as a rule id think
  17. Ha. Well played with the quotes:) I will just say having the depth is nice.. But it doesnt mean nearly as much if the starting 5 is s***. They arent there to save rotations. Most of my arguement was based on the OP being content with the rotatio cause we had "depth"
  18. The OP has Hutch in starting 5.. So you have Stroman when hes ready..then the other guys but theyre org guys. Non-guys. Sachez doesnt count as anything but prospect this year Im not saying its s*** depth.. Just not something other teams cant match in production if they needed to from their farm or mlb scrap heap. Jays just wouldnt need to look outside their org..but maybe a DFA candidate would be superior if they get to Nolin and beyond
  19. Pointless point. Anyone would rather have 5 good SP than 1 ace (even if Clayton) and crap
  20. Yeah but look at the list of "depth".. As jay fans we will naturally look at the names and our homerism will tell us "hes got upside"..but in fact if we saw them on another team, we would say theyre s***. None deserving a spot in a good rotation and outside of Stroman they all have "back end" written all over them.. I would much rather have a team with a superior 3 guys that could step ih.. Then s*** after that. Cause really, how much worse can you get than the Jay guys? Teams can pick up guys like Laffey if they get past their reserves .... Or whoever else gets released.. and not miss a beat..
  21. To highard: Terrible idea. There prob isnt one SP in the opening day 5 that would have an O/U in Vegas for lower than a 4.00 ERA All that wonderful "depth" is mostly the same kind of s*** any team with a much better rotation can come up with when someone goes down. Not some big advantage
  22. Nowhere..as usual though, hes calling someone out for not "genuinely loving" the game
  23. Jiminez will be more like 4/60 or 4/56 ay least.. I would still sign two mlb guys over Tanaka. I like Jimi but not Santana as much. Garza im not huge on either..wish they would move Sanchez++ (not Stroman) and get Shark. Shark + Jimi as FA
  24. Props to xposbrad for clearing it up. I was curious on it but saw there were like 6 different versions being given but didnt feel like looking up myself. Thanks
  25. Lol..yeah, when read that way it loses its oxymoron status.
