Pitcher-by-pitcher, game-by-game. Game 1 of WS is different than Game 6 or 7. Just like a game in May is different than the WS.
I really don’t get the uproar over Rays ruining baseball and also the Lailas watching it clutching their cat, stroking it with an even chuckle
I’ve seen them stick with starters multiple times this PS and while I don’t watch any Ray games, I can use reasoning to think if they regularly made highly questionable pulls of their good SP, there wouldn’t be any surprise now on the SP’s part when they came for the ball.
If you’re in a huge game, you gotta do what you can to win. Back in the day if the Yankees had a #3 that went 6 IP of strong, shutout baseball but they were clinging to 1 run lead in a Gme 7, they may figure to go to Mariano for 6 outs and Gordon (or someone like that) for the 7th. If they don’t go to the pen and give up the lead, in the post-game they’d probably get like 50 different variations of “did you think of putting in Gordon”... so you gotta do what you think is your best chance to win. As long as it doesn’t involve putting in AJ Cole, that’s what you do.
Again, this philosophy is different in a non-critical game
