He is an absolute workhorse, is rarely injured and is the strike thrower every team needs. How many times before Janssens did we curse when we had brought in a closer who couldnt just throw damn strikes? I am sure he will command some coin, but I see no reason to just let him walk. Any interview with him says that the two sides talked about it, didnt seem to work out, so that was that. This is a guy who has averaged 1.04 whip in four years while logging 50 innings a year. He does not give up the HR in this HR happy park. I just dont know what else they are looking for. We don't seem to have a clear set closer waiting in the wings, so why not sign him for 2+ years. At 33 I know he will start to fall apart, but he is not the flamethrower, he throws accurate strikes, I think he could afford to lose some speed and still be effective.
For what we got out of him and what we paid, his value has been unreal for the last 3 years, time to pay him what he is worth.
I am so sick of the tight purse strings of this team.
This is a guy who we couldnt figure out what to do with 5 years ago. I cringed when we used to start games, but he evolved into an excellent end game player.
One of my fav Jays of all time. He will be missed.
