It's exceedingly difficult to "hit" on prospects, even first rounders unless you are getting top 5 picks every year (aka tampa bay, washington).

AA undervalues bench players/position players in general.

I really only care about the numbers. JP was s*** defensively in 2011, which is where he got the bad rap. Both BBall reference and fangraphs have him much better for 2012 and 2013 so far. Still not a great defensive catcher, but probably around average. Pitch framing data shows he's about average too.

Pitch framing was bad in 2011. More recent numbers from fangraphs have him about middle of the pack...and I don't care what Zaun says.

He's actually not a horrible defensive catcher. He certainly used to be, but he's improved to be about middle of the pack. I think he's about middle of the pack in pitch framing too. What he really needs to do is stop swinging at balls, especially when he already has 3 of them.
