  7. Looking into it further, BASIC and Pascal both use a single equal sign for comparison. I had completely forgotten about that.
  8. If you're talking about the comparison operator, then the double equal sign is actually ubiquitous. I can't think of any programming language where the single equal sign is used for anything other than assignment.
