Big picture of what? This team is moving further and further from contention as the team ages and IMO is not a contender as the team stood prior to Opening Day 2014.

I thought you came up with a formula on framing some months back?? As for the other stuff you mentioned (quiet deep glove, providing a good long target for the pitcher....etc) are traits of a good defensive catcher and have been so for a long time.

So its video scouting and still a very refined trait. But a scout sitting at a game cannot sit and watch and say this kids a good framer.

And Bautista got rave reviews when he started hitting HR's. As for Lawrie and his bad defence at 2B, atleast there was talk about Lawrie. I see very little to nothing about Gomes in the bit of info/access I have. And until you posted your report from after Gomes was in the majors where was anyone talking about him? Great that BA posted something in late 2012/2013. 3-4 years might be long enough to hold of on unveiling this mega star no one knew or cared about while in the minors. Even after his very good year last year, and looking at his peers as comp's. He falls in as a tail end 2nd tier C.

Aside from the formula you came up with, is it possible to even scout framing? It's such a refined skill that catcher's may not even realize they're good at it. And for a baseball person/scout to sit and watch a catcher who may get a couple+ extra calls a game is almost missable.

And moving the Rays from one bad fan base to another solves what???? The Expos who in 1992 & 1993 finished 2nd in their division with a crazy good, young team and was dominating in 1994 was averaging 24,000+ fans to games in Montreal, 11th of 14 National League teams. This Canadian spin of we want our team back is deserved or good for MLB how?

I don't believe the defence is as good as its currently being proclaimed to be, otherwise he would've been talked about. You have kids like Christian Vazquez in Boston & Tucker Barnhart in Cincy with similar or weaker bats to Gomes and they're getting talked about from multiple reputable sources on a yearly basis. So their defence must be notch or multiple notches ahead of Gomes. A player who is "good" and gets overlooked every year by everyone is what Bautista was. And I don't care to try and figure out who those players are.

So you're marketing a guy most have tabbed as a 2nd/3rd tier catcher???.....playoffs here I come.

With AJ Jimenez being a year behind (year+/2 years recovering from his injury) Gomes. The Jays could've gone with Gomes to start in that time if TDA was a goner. But I would've expected AJJ to have overtaken him at some point, thus making Gomes expendable to trade or moved to a Util position.

IMO Negrych could've been brought up for a cup of coffee. There was no reason to expect much given his track record. So you give the guy a small chance seeing we needed IF help at the time and when he failed or no longer need him, you demote him.
