If you're going to do all that you probably want a club option for a second year. Or to add 2 other qualified FA players since losing 3rd/4th round picks don't hurt as much. Still don't hate the deal but it's riskier than most.

    Exactly Probably a little scared of the upcoming CBA//lockout/free agency uncertainty Can't negotiate with anyone but the Jays Probably enjoyed his few months here Was sold on the certainty of a 7 year deal that provided security even if a bit below market value
