I've been scouring the past trades to see what has happened in the past. There aren't many that are similar. I'll keep looking. it would almost take a perfect situation like SF losing Pagan for the season or Detroit losing AJax.
It's partially speculation on my part but right after they talked to the Jays about Bonifacio they dealt Hanson for a reliever so it would make sense. It was a starter that was rumoured.
Blanks and Wells are much more like Rajai than Sierra I'll say that much. I'd love to see Rajai go and be replaced with a cheaper younger version. Again it's mostly just a team built poorly. MDR could play like he did when he was 25 and I'd still say that was one of the worst signings ever. Not trading Bonifacio for Hanson (no matter how bad Hanson might be) is horrible non move.
I will add that I like Blanks and he's an upgrade on Sierra because of his versatility and ability to run and he has options for this year. I just don't see the Padres dealing him while he'll still be so cheap in arbitration.
It just leads to more punts later though. I just think making a trade for a player to replace an injured bench player that we don't even know how serious it is, is a silly move. These guys being talked about are barely upgrades over Sierra and will need to be dumped when Rajai comes back. If the team is looking for a complete overhaul than yes maybe there are spots for some of these guys. Right now we have an entire team of players without options or who are absolutely needed. It's been poorly built and doesn't really apply itself to making a move such as trading for right handed bench piece to replace a DL player.
we're talking about a guy that's going to get to start 33% of the games at best potentially only for the next 15 days. Ride the hot bat, hope he's still smoking line drives for the few starts he'll have. Had an .815 OPS in the majors against lefties and .880 over the last three years in the minors.
I might add he's actually hitting righties in Buffalo this year too. huge BABIP's cannot be sustained but a 25% LD rate shows he's making great contact, doesn't mean he won't have an big BABIP here too
Gose is way too redundant with Rasmus here and is still in need of so much work in Buffalo, he won't get the work here. Sierra shouldn't need to defend often. he can DH against lefties and Rasmus will have to play (or Boni is CF).
I realize you are a true troll and only looking for attention...but I'll play. The Jays will not be much for sellers at the deadline. All they have left is an increased TV audience and quite a few extra tickets sold from the off season. They are not going to appear to be going backwards, they have to continue to sell this as a talented base and not appear to be taking a huge step backwards. The biggest pieces they will move at the deadline would be Rasmus and Johnson.
He's hitting the ball right now and can hit against lefties. He's much more what we need unless it's Negrych and we go with Boni as 4th OF, Negrych as 5th.
Gose did hit a HR tonight, but Sierra really makes more sense right now. Will play against all lefties very similar to the role Rajai had, without the pinch running
Body type, swing type, stance, age to level, slash lines. Considering Bruce was a number 1 prospect overall...just take the compliment and leave it there. And Winker will posses that kind of power IMO
