  1. actually we don't. BTS and I are finally on the same page that we need to remove people. Report the posts, a mod will look at it. And deal with it. AGAIN if it's an obvious issue. Don't respond to it.
  2. I'll start by saying this is not a response representing admin or the mod team. This one is 100% me. I think having good OT discussions was healthy for the board. A lot of mlb boards are graveyards and I think part of this reason the board even made it tp this point was it was more than just guys sharing stats. So good job ruing that part of the board. There are many forms of bullying. I do think Boxy was an offender. I also know that Boxy knows he was an offender. But there are very few innocent here (Blue Rocky and Todd maybe). Piling on people is form of bullying, as is encouraging it. Making a post on a board, which you have stated you do not wish to continue posting on, goading a rival who now can't respond is a form of bullying. I think you are one of the more intelligent people on this board so I probably have always seen everything you do as devious and well thought out, and you love the "debate" regardless of whether others do too. I think in some ways you and Boxy are similar. It's probably more a selfishness than anything else. I apologize if I was wrong. I'll throw my current response as one that is no longer acceptable as well. As for our moderation of this board. I will 100% say I realize my faults here. I was a terrible mod. I protected those in the wrong because they were in the fantasy leagues or one of the opinions I respect on baseball terms. I have publicly stated many times that I love a good debate. I thought all activity was good activity. Instead of punishing the offenders I kept creating new playrooms where they could play away from the other kids thinking they would avoid those that wanted to discuss the things that this board was made for (Blue Jays and Baseball talk). Meanwhile, hardly anyone was talking baseball. The draft is one of the few times we have had good baseball talk. Connor, I hope you continue to enjoy the fantasy pools and I'm not deleting your account so you can come back. The parting shots have to stop though. I'll deal with these two together. I know Terminator was joking. This isn't a 9/11 joke on the 12th bad, but more of a kicking your buddy in the nads joke. I am willing to be the nads here, but we have seen that many cannot let this go. So I'm asking for you to refrain from these until my nads heal. Personal thing here. "Mods" is my least favourite post in the forum. I know it was a board meme and likely that is what you were going for here. So I'll just use this is an opportunity to say: If you feel a post is violation, hit the report button. If you feel a post is a violation and you respond to it...you are part of the problem. You made it one lol before you had your first violation. In 2016 I decided to keep a folder of reported posts. Did a search of that folder and your name came up in over 60% of the emails. You are an issue for this board and we have given you special privileges. Tercet called us out on it over and over until it drove him to anger and insanity. I think we met for the first time over 10 years ago now, and judging by our circles of friends we probably knew each other long before these boards. But you are the bane of my moderator existence. If you can't control yourself from these unacceptable responses such as the ones above, do yourself a favour and stop posting on the main board. The slate is clean, but you have to wipe the slate clean too. Your past feuds, your little personal comments are done or you are. So close. Almost a good response, the psychopath comment is not going to defuse the situation. A better response would have been no response. I know I said I would post as myself and immediately went into passive aggressive mod guy. I don't like being a mod. I have tried to quit about 5 times now. But I do enjoy this community. I brag all the time to people that 3 members of our message board community went on to front office jobs in major league baseball. Through them I have met several other members of front offices. Could you imagine them bragging to their friends about current board being the place that helped to shape their baseball thoughts. I pimped this board every baseball place I was for 6 years. Last year when I recruited 2 people for BORED from another sports community, I told them to sign up just for the BORED thread and don't read the rest of the mess. I should have known then that it needed blowing up. Apathy is a bitch though. If you don't hate me, respect the rules. Stop the little pot shots. Forget about everything that was said for the past 10 years that most of us have had an online relationship. If you do hate me...break the rules and we'll get rid of you. If you hate BTS, join the club (Nad kick).
  3. I almost feel like you guys got together and said. Lets f***ing put BTS and Hurl to the test. I am trying to give everyone a clean slate and already there are some pushing the boundaries, and each other. I am going to put together one more post to respond to somethings which Connor said and need to be responded to and then this thread is as closed as my mind on these things.
  4. I think it ended up in one of the deleted threads but I had talked about a chat where a marketing firm representing the Bills was talking about selling cardboard cutouts of their fans to the fans. The A's have implemented the plan. It is for charity, and in a cool twist if a ball hits your cutout they will send you the ball. https://www.athleticsnation.com/2020/6/30/21309382/oakland-as-coliseum-cutouts-cardboard-fans
  5. It's not as if he is getting another contract after this one. He is 36 at the end of his next contract. He will sit out this season and lose out on $5M but he still has $10M guaranteed left. If the Rockies realize it and buy him out or trade him he gets an extra $1M.
  6. I know I did.
  7. Fun fact, if Bonilla bought CIBC stock with his $5.9M in 1992. He'd have made $25M in dividend income and have stock worth $33M approx. But he's collected almost $12M in July 1st cheques.
  8. same day we make a new rule of respect, someone has to make such a divisive post. This is why we can't have nice things!
  9. The mods and admin did talk about removing the off topic completely but for many this is the only place where they discuss sports, booze, movies, tv shows, comedians. They will be moderated as usual.
  10. We would police avatars in the same way as in the past. If one cannot see a picture of a politician without it triggering them to a response about that politician I would say that they won't be able to abide by the new rules. Example: a Poster with a picture of a world leader says "Rowdy Tellez should play 3rd base". And a response is "figures a person who supports that politician would have such a stupid opinion" The issue is not the guy with the picture! Common sense people. There will be some lines which are shady, but it isn't that difficult to respect people who you disagree with.
  11. We will deal with it. I have taken personal shots at many members myself. Those that do have to learn to change their posting style.
  12. The board recently had a well worded complaint about inclusion and feeling comfortable posting. This board was formed by posters on the mlb.com message board and was originally formed as a more saber friendly board with a very strong baseball acumen. So over the years we have had new posters tell us that it is not an inclusive place to post. However, in this case the poster stated that they didn’t feel comfortable posting because they didn’t feel they could keep quiet based on their personal views and they would not have felt comfortable or safe making their views known. For the past few years there were several threads on the off topic board which were formed to keep differing non-baseball related opinions off of the baseball threads. These threads have developed “feuds” which have once again filtered back into the baseball related threads. Many regulars have called the boards things like “unreadable” over the past few years. It is time for a major change. The politics thread, Coronavirus how scared are you?, and In the News threads have been deleted and will not return. Further to that the following new rule will be implemented: Responses to posts are still encouraged. However, responses in which you are referencing the poster are not. If you can’t refute the post without any form of personal comment at a poster, do not respond. Political references are not allowed. Sports have become very political. There are many posts which are about baseball players and politics. These will be allowed as will responses to these, but mods will be quick to close the thread if it gets out of hand. There are many places for you to argue politics. Take your discussions to one of those avenues. Punishment on this will be at the sole discretion of the moderators. It may be deletion and warning. It could be a one day ban, it could be a lifetime ban. All we ask is that you think about what you are posting. This board will now be treated as a business, if you say something which could negatively affect the business you will be removed. If you feel that someone is breaking the rules, please report the post. Do not respond to that post. This thread will be left open for comments. If you are not comfortable posting it here you can PM myself or BTS. Thank you and Happy Canada Day! BJMB Moderation team.
  13. 100% it is less affordable, less access. You can't leave it up to the players. The issue is that the owners see it as a requirement not profits
  14. 1970 10.8% of the population was black. Stop trying to read something into this. The number of black athletes playing baseball is declining and has been declining for several years. This is at all levels of baseball, not just major league. If you want to look at numbers google them. The decline has been sharpest since 2005. I can see disputing my point that black culture are essential for growing the game. I could see a person arguing that even if they put up urban academies it wouldn't improve the numbers, as the best black athletes will choose a different sport anyway...but I don't get trying to read something into the numbers. It's plain and simple, there is less interest in baseball in the black communities than there used to be.
  15. The FBI investigations have started to change it. Most players once they made it were signing with their AAU sponsors. Essentially they were "buying their future" and the FBI investigation wanted to come down on Adidas and Nike who were named. NBA and NCAA need the shoe money too...but they don't need their stars implicated in a FBI investigation so they are looking to control the AAU more. AAU is considering limiting team sponsors.
  16. AAU has been great. They don't have the partnerships that you think (Nike and UnderArmour have walked away). They are what Little League should have been for baseball. But they have never felt competition in the past. I would bet they merge with Jr. NBA within 5 years.
  17. I 100% agree. It's almost as if I have given up on MLB Marketing. MLB putting the funds into getting no cost to participant programs will actually have a smaller impact than proper marketing. There are 30 cities which have MLB teams. Another 120 (i think that is the new number) MiLB cities. Start with those 150 cities. Create better partnerships and compete against the high cost travelling teams. It has to start with the MLB itself either way. The Jr. NBA is funded by NBA, Basketball Canada, USA Basketball, G League, Several top Euro clubs, FIBA Americas, FIBA Europe (UnderArmour funded too). There are paid programs, there are funded programs. Basketball isn't sitting back and letting pop culture and the players market the game...they are growing the game.
  18. 27% in 1975. 8% today. 5.6% of NCAA players compared to 21% in 1980. If you want to put this into financial terms I can do that. If you want to MLB to grow, getting young black americans is the only way to get it done. Young white North Americans are influenced heavily by Black America.
  19. For anyone saying the black community cannot afford baseball. In 1975 black income was proportionately lower than it is now. MLB was 27% black players. It has gone down every year since 2007. I will say that the increase in Travel baseball cost is an issue. I know in Ontario it's over $5k a year to play with an "elite" team. I understand travel teams in the states start in that range as well. They have to expand the MLB urban youth academy to a national program (currently it runs in Compton, Houston and Puerto Rico). Compton program started in 2006. 100 athletes from that program have been drafted by MLB teams.
  20. community development projects by professional leagues have always without fail had a positive participation rate increase in those communities. Does anyone remember in the 90's MLB invested 100's of millions into black baseball camps. Colleges saw an increase in participation rates, there was an MLB spike about 10 years later. The programs were no longer funded as MLB encouraged retired athletes to fund the programs (the Braves were the only team which continued to fund a program on their own I believe). It's not about marketing players, it's about funds. Fund baseball in lower income communities and lower income communities will provide you with baseball players. This is a proven method in sports. But the funding has to be ongoing, not a nice PR move and dropped when it is no longer needed.
  21. It was a 9 page instagram post where he talked about what got him to the big leagues. He went back to his community fields and schools. He is going to use some of his time off giving back to Sarasota and Sarasota baseball. Read the whole thing. It is a well thought out post. So unlike BJMB
  22. Ian Desmond just became one of my favourite players. That was a great post. Gave his reasoning, talked about what he is personally going to do, mentioned some things baseball does poorly, and in the end he cited being home for his family as the number 1 reason.
  23. Thanks z. I really think the Blue Jays Boners will turn to Hiraldo once the real sexy spects graduate. I did see a dynasty ranking where he was directly behind Sim
  24. Quick answer is yes if you are following the set out protocols for your sport. As Jimbo mentioned not following protocols could fall under negligence and open the org up to a suit. If you go on any PSO's site you will find that sports return to play policies. I read Baseball Manitoba's this morning they are quite detailed
  25. New issues as New York is putting restrictions on people who have been in high risk states
