I didn't really squeeze it out of him. It was FTD's need for an outfielder that drove the deal and, thinking fairly equally of the two players, I wanted some extra value as motivation to pull the trigger. FTD still has an abundance of pitching and his team now looks complete.

Cruisin' Chris retained outfield eligibility unexpectedly, so I could deal an outfielder while FTD was desperate for one. We discussed CCC but couldn't come to an agreement, so decided on Pence/Cueto.

Coke is very effective against lefties though. If we're going to have Cecil close, having a third lefty in the pen could be useful. And there's no risk if it's a minor league deal.

The Padres don't have an infield lol and many of their pitchers' perceived values are inflated by Petco. Ian Kennedy and Tyson Ross aren't actually top of the rotation guys. They just aren't a very good team; an easy under. I also like Mets under, Orioles under and Rays over. This forum is probably close to a consensus on the latter two.

It's pretty crazy that the Nationals managed to nab the pre-season highest-rated prospect in four straight drafts: Strasburg, Harper, Rendon, Giolito.

Really? I think 2008 was decent. Beckham obviously was bad but Alvarez, Hosmer and Posey were very elite advanced bats entering the draft. Matusz too as a pitcher and he became an elite prospect. Plenty of guys became legit major leaguers: Alonso, Beckham, Smoak, Lawrie, Davis, Cashner, Cole, Chisenhall, Lynn, Miley, etc.

I wanted Guerrieri or Barnes. Or Josh Bell, but everyone wanted Josh Bell's talent and were shocked when the Pirates got him to sign.

I remember some people had Levi Michael to the Jays because he was an advanced middle infield bat. That guy sure busted fast. Seeing that whole draft again makes me feel much better about Comer and Musgrove. Tampa, Minnesota, Milwaukee and others blew great opportunities. The top half of the first round was absolutely loaded with tools.

The BP guys have always been high on him. He commands two plus pitches and the results have been good.
