just read an interesting fun fact.

I can't believe how well some guys played while consuming copious amounts of alcohol daily. (Mantle, Ruth++) the game has been cleaned up a lot in the modern era but there are still some guys who can't deal with the money.

A lot of people either aren't old enough or ignore the fact that he was amazing BEFORE THE STEROIDS. He was so much fun to watch in the outfield when he was a young skinny kid running everything down and throwing out runners like a sniper. Roids gave him a little bit more power but his mechanics were great from a very young age.

could you imagine stanton in the middle of the jays lineup this year, but he's not going to get traded this year

depends on how it goes with his injuries. he has a few bad ones the last 2 years. but he probably wont get his face broken by a HBP again. it's really hard to predict performance for 13 years

a 10 year deal to a guy in his 30s is completely out there. you have to know the production is not going to be there for all ten and there is no way to sell that kind of s***** deal. A 25 year old who is like say Stanton for 10 is not as bad, but unlikely to yield a good $/ WAR the last years of the deal, but he got Signed thru 2027, 13 yrs/$325M on a national league team. so he might be a bench bat the last 5 years? That's insane.

my being a mod really doesn't change much. I still talk with people when I have the time. I have always read through most posts. This off season has been pretty good for BJMB. there have been good discussions and a lot less s*** storms. stat guys just talk ball logically and guess those who are former players are more about heart. it's not a bad thing. I just appreciate the input from the stat guys who really pick apart the numbers because it helps me understand things better. I'm more the player side. I have a base knowledge of the stats but not in depth. some days I don't want to talk stats, I just want to cheer for my team... or complain, depending on how things are going.

we have some guys on very team friendly deals. when those deals are up it will cost a lot more to replace the performance. ie EE and Jose.

some of the ten year deals have been insanely stupid no matter how you look at them. How much did Pujols get, 240M? does he own the Angels now? that's insane money. I get a two year over pay to out weight someone trying to get a 3 or 4 year deal. pay a little more for two instead of getting stuck with s***** back end performance.

and I'll spell it wrong again. doesn't mean I completely lost. I know in my mind how it is spelled but somewhere between brain and fingers things seem to get lost.

I wouldn't hate that. He knows the Jays from top to bottom and probably has good ideas on what needs to be changed.
