  1. To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to change their posting behavior. If you like super-duper-mega-threads, have at it. But I may occasionally split off a thread or start my own thread if it feels news-worthy. I generally have a pretty light touch on things but there are certain points I want to hit to draw in new users.
  2. I have little to no use for Reddit but I do want a forum that's easy to follow with clearly delineated topics. And, as a person who has been running forums for over 20 years, so do most users.
  3. I want to get up to speed on the team, which podcasts are your favorites?
  4. The information in this article is all over the place. The Jays offered a "franchise record" contract. Someone (maybe) offered $250 million but we don't know who is was. If the Jays offered $250 million and were turned down, that's pretty damning... but I doubt that's the case. I'm skeptical of the $250 million offer at all, considering how much Burnes signed for in Arizona. But who knows? Maybe that opt-out after year two was really, really important to him. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/orioles-blue-jays-discussed-franchise-record-contracts-with-corbin-burnes.html
  5. Let me know how you really feel about it. The censor settings are temporary. I need to "clean" the forums of several words before we can be approved for advertising. It's not even the F-word and whatnot that are the problem, but more nefarious words like the N-word and select others. Once I get a better idea of what needs to be done, I can un-censor more common profanity like the F-word.
  6. I mean, maybe? But ultimately, I think it mostly comes down to money and terms. I haven't been embedded with the Jays like the rest of you have but it feels like Toronto is always "in the running" until actual dollar numbers come out. And on an individual case basis, that's not the worst thing in the world. It only becomes a problem when the almighty dollar becomes more important than signing literally *anyone*. If the Jays aren't going to make good enough offers to land anyone, it feels like a reboot is in order. Scuffling through mediocrity in this division will only lead to disappointment.
  7. I wonder about Alonso. With so many teams making a run on first basemen, it feels like he might be left out in the cold a bit. Obviously, the Mets always have the money but so many teams shored up their first base for 2025 in like three days. The market has to be rather diminished on him, as half the league doesn't have any money to spend in the first place.
  8. By the way, I won't hesitate to ban accounts that think it's funny to post fake news. My tolerance level for that nonsense is zero. It's not funny, it's just disruptive and annoying.
  9. You misspelled Gremlins.
  10. Merry Christmas to all of you!
  11. I don't fault guys for wanting to maximize their paydays; it's not as if owners are magnanimous with their wallets.
  12. I'm wondering how much the market has really changed. There are some teams that are stable financially (for now) but a huge portion of the league is in revenue free fall. It *feels* like prices are absurd this offseason - and they are - but it's only a handful of teams that are participating in the madness. And more teams are going to fall victim to the RSN crash over time.
  13. This is interesting. I don't fault Guerrero for setting a deadline but the opening of camp is somewhat surprising; many deals are wrapped up once the two sides meet face-to-face in spring. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/12/vladimir-guerrero-jr-sets-spring-training-deadline-for-extension-talks-with-blue-jays.html He said the Jays are still way off on dollars, which are reportedly $340m. That's... a lot for a first baseman, who isn't even a good defensive first baseman. It's in the Jays' interests to retain Vladdy but what dollar number is a hard "no" for you?
  14. It's a heavily-modified version of Invision Community. We've spent several years customizing and adding features specifically for baseball, like prospect voting, roster building, and other cool stuff.
  15. Blue Jays Nest is not available or it would definitely be on the list.
  16. Looks like people can only see the poll on desktop mode? Well that’s annoying. You’re all gonna love the platform we’re moving to.
  17. Okay, I like the way that first round went, there were three choices that received the bulk of votes and a fourth added that several people - myself included - really like. So the new vote is your favorite choice and your backup choice (so vote for two!). I'll close this in a few days, possibly the 26th. Previous post explaining: First, I *hate* doing this. We try to avoid name changes and keep the original domain whenever possible. This is one of those "not possible" scenarios. We had to change the Brewers name as well because it was a .net domain. It sucks, I hate it. Second, BlueJaysMessageBoard.com will always direct to the forum of the site so bookmarks will continue to function. I need to look at the underlying code but I will also try to name the forum "Blue Jays Message Board" for continuity. But the site is going to get bigger... a lot bigger. And "Message Board" is only a small part of what we're going to be doing going forward. I'm going to make a decision pretty quickly about this because our senior developer is nipping at my heels about this particular task. I'm going to put this to a vote but there are extenuating circumstances that may cause me to choose the second or third option instead of the first. It depends on some pending research I'm doing into social media channels, SEO strength, and other stuff. Because continuity is important to me, I found a thread from WAY BACK on this forum about the original name and pulled some of the options that received votes in that 2013 poll. Unfortunately, most of the names I really liked are no longer available. Bummer. So choose from some of these options. If you have opinions you'd like to share, give 'em here. I'll listen to everyone, though I cannot promise how/why I will ultimately make a decision. Naming a site is like juggling 50 balls at once and 46 of them are invisible to everyone else. I have a ton of factors I need to weigh in that aren't obvious to outside observers.
  18. Hah. Okay then. Part of the reason I never reached out to anyone there is because the vibes of that place never sat well with me. There are loads of baseball communities I've ignored over the years because I either find the team distasteful or the community is just effing toxic.
  19. Okay, I like Jays Centre quite a bit. I checked and both Jays Centre and Jays Center are available, which is important because we'd need to buy both and redirect Center to Centre. I'm going to close this thread either later tonight or tomorrow with a narrowed down list and then allow everyone to vote for one.
  20. One of the first I looked into, wildly unavailable on pretty much every level.
  21. Nest is one of my favorites but unfortunately it is not available.

  23. Can we stay on topic without harassing one another, please? kthx
