Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Ugh. The Jays got a pitcher in the deal who would have a greater impact in 2015 on the MLB roster than the players they gave up. This stacked offense allows AA to trade off of the MLB roster for pitching without a substantial downgrade to the offense compared to how it was two days ago. Of course this assumes AA is thinking along those lines. Edwin would likely only okay a trade with the Cards, just saying. Other than them, good luck.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Yes, ban anyone with a minority viewpoint. Good one Ang. As long as they can rationalize why they don't like the deal, we should respect their opinion.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Sorry, n00b question, how do I add someone to my ignore list? Go to their profile page, should be on the left hand side. Wow, your first? I've got 14 on there already.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I don't come on the main forum much, so I haven't needed to.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Edwin would likely only okay a trade with the Cards, just saying. Other than them, good luck. I think people greatly overestimate the power and use of the 10/5 clause. If the Jays want to trade Edwin and there's a team that wants him, there will be a way to work things out. Plus the Cardinals and Jays match up pretty well as potential trade partners.

That's why I mentioned them, there isn't a fit anywhere else, unless I'm missing something, and yes, EE would veto any move he doesn't like, it's his right.
baubau Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 This trade can easily blow up on the Jays. By no means is it a home run yet. Tulo very well could be just as bad as Reyes heading forward so the team could have made a lateral move while giving up assets and paying more for a player. With that being said, I would do the trade taking the chance on Tulo. Hoffman, while great, has me concerned on his delivery. While I don't know why the Jays tried to "Sanchez" his delivery, but the fact that they didn't do that with Osuna after his makes me wonder if the Jays worry his old delivery will lead to more TJs.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm super stoked. Tulowitzki is the best SS in baseball, and really shores up the D on the left side. Our left side of the infield has to be one of the best ever. If Hoffman is the only big piece to deal (I'm meh on Castro) then I'm pretty damn happy. with an infield of JD, Tulo, Travis and Smoak.... hell yeah!!! I'll take that. We really need a starter though.

I think this trade happened partly b/c Reyes was stinkin it up of late but also b/c AA knows first hand how hard it is to get middle infielders after looking for 2b for all that time (we got reallly lucky with Travis, Kinsler ended up helping us out in the end lol). Seeing how we traded Bareto, we have nobody coming up.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 yes hes better the reyes but not like reyes hurts our team. There's nothing wrong with not liking the deal. It is not a slam dunk by any means. But you can't dislike the trade and say it sucks because you think Hoffman will be a stud. We are all aware that possibility very much exists.

FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Not unless I know I'll be able to get a starting pitcher by the deadline. Knowing AA's tendency to halfass everything, I'd say there's a pretty good chance we don't. Even then, while our offense looks sick on paper with Tulo, his injury history + turf worries me.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm curious, who here would flip Tulo for Matt Harvey?
Nafro Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Tulo for Matt Harvey and Wilmer Flores....Not realistic, but that would be where I start.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm curious, who here would flip Tulo for Matt Harvey? If they include Gavin Cecchini.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm curious, who here would flip Tulo for Matt Harvey? Very interesting question. I'd say no. the downgrade to Goins is just too much. now Harvey and Tejada might be a different story. Even then I probably say no.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm curious, who here would flip Tulo for Matt Harvey? I like it on paper but the black hole it opens up at shortstop is pretty hard to swallow for a contending team and the optics of trading the superstar shortstop you just aquired would be terrible. I think you'd have to pass but it would be painful to do so.
baubau Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Everyone Only if they take back Dickey + Thole and give us Synd too! I want take-back rules dammit. >
