For sure. Because retroactively saying who we should and shouldn't have signed with the benefit of hindsight makes a person so smart. And on the other hand, once a player has 3 bad games there's no chance he goes on to have a good season, right? /sarcasm We don't know how this signing will work out. Or Santana's. Or anyone's.

Right... But right now I can score internet points... f*** tomorrow.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 We don't know how this signing will work out. Or Santana's. Or anyone's. Nobody wanted Jimenez because he's an ace. People wanted Jimenez because even at his worst he's been a guy who can give you innings. The Jays rotation has looked solid so far but there are still a lot of question marks about how many innings the team can get out of the current 5.

Lots of guys can give you innings for 1/5th the money......................

Oh, but some posters here, and well respected ones, have said signing Romero to that contract was a bad move by AA. It goes both ways. Some of the regulars here picked the team to contend last year only to then blast the GM for putting it together when things went sour. It's certainly early to call Jimenez a bust, he did struggle early last year before turning it around. However, the stuff he showed today wasn't very impressive.

So far in 3 starts he has not been good. Has anyone really said the Romero extension was a bad idea? I mean it sucks now obviously, but I've said a dozen times - any GM in baseball would have HAPPILY given him that contract at that time. But your point is good anyway - you can't change your mind about whether a decision was good or bad after having the benefit of hindsight. It drives me nuts when people do that. GM's don't have crystal balls. Even the best ones get burned sometimes.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I was doing polls on signings for this very reason, but I can't remember if I did one on the Ubaldo signing or not.

On a somewhat related note, JJ's injury is apparently not getting any better and may keep him out longer than initially thought. There were some who ridiculed the Jays for not qualifying him and how they wouldn't be surprised if JJ pitched better than all Jays starters. But anyway, it's the way sports forums work, one can say whatever one wants with no accountability.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 What morons did this? Several posters did. I fully admitted that I leaned towards qualifying him and was glad I was proven wrong. Just for full disclosure. I've also admitted I picked the team to win between 86-92 wins last season, so what the heck do I know.

Eragon Verified Member Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I didn't like seeing Edwin just give-up when he was caught between 2nd and 3rd... at least run it out.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
