Tijuana, BC ( TorosDeTijuana.com - Héctor Rivera) September 24 .- Alejandro Kirk became the number 14 prospect that the Toros de Tijuana academy exports to major leagues after signing a contract with the Azujelos of Toronto.
The signing was attended by Jorge Campillo, sports director of the Tijuana club, Guillermo Armenta, coordinator of the development area, Aaron Acosta, scout of Azulejos, and the young prospect's family.
"In my opinion, he's one of the best hitters I've ever seen at that age, he knows how to play baseball and takes advantage of the opponent's carelessness while he's on base. Defensively he's very solid and you'll notice a complexion that will help him play that position for many years without any problem. " commented Campillo.
Toronto showed interest in the prospective receiver after the "showcase" on August 22 held at the Gasmart stadium where more than thirty prospects from Toros de Tijuana gathered talent seekers from 25 major league organizations.
"The qualities he has shown attracted us a lot, his batting is very consistent and in the Academy he did something historic by winning the triple crown and stole twenty bases, he has all the conditions to go far," Acosta said.
The Tijuana native won the Triple Crown of batting in the 2016 season of the Academy of the Mexican Baseball League, which took place in El Carmen, Nuevo León, when hitting .415 with ten home runs and 55 runs produced.
"I feel very happy, I go to the great organization in Toronto that thank God gave me this opportunity and there is nothing left to do but to thank the Toros de Tijuana for opening the doors to young people," said Kirk.
After his result he traveled to the Tampa Bay Rays Academy located in the Dominican Republic, but finally it was the Toronto Blue Jays who kept the prospect.
"He is a committed boy with himself, who loves baseball and has that desire to become a professional player and get as far as possible," said Acosta.
The plan of the Canadian team for the prospect is to send it to the Instructional League of the organization.
