It's like that moving on for philosophical reasons on Shildt in St. Louis for the guy he was grooming to be the manager, bench coach Oliver Marmol (I didn't think that was happening yet)... Melvin was likely in his better interest to go to San Diego, I wouldn't doubt Beane opened the door for him. Players are getting to expensive down there in Oakland. The Shildt deal was BS... the Cardinal way.
