    I agree the postseason is just a tournament. But I think if people in general are thinking back on the “best team” they remember the World Series winner and unless it’s like the 01’ mariners, reg season records are forgotten. It’s really just the fan bases of the top teams who have the issue with it. The jays were very competitive against teams like dodgers and braves during the season and it was very easy to see if Mookie and Freddie were contained that’s all you really had to do. Everyone thought the braves would walk all over them but obviously if the stars go cold you are screwed. I would like to see 7 game series considering baseball is such a long season and NBA/NHL use that format with seasons half as long as MLB. But the statistics don’t change a huge amount from 3-7 game series. As soon as you go behind a game you have a huge disadvantage.

    I personally like adding more teams to playoffs. It is funny seeing a lot of comments from smoltz mostly on broadcasts and YouTube - “if they played this series 10 times”, or “if this happens the next 4-5 years something has to be done”. Considering he was on those Atlanta teams that kept getting knocked out. This post was from orioles hangout obviously. I’ve been reading a lot from braves and orioles fans about supposed advantage the teams facing them had. Not so much from dodgers, they have no excuse.

    With the Orioles, Rays, Braves, and Dodgers eliminated, we will have a World Series Champion that in no way represents the best baseball team in 2023 I know we can never go back to a single NL Champion playing a single AL champion in as 7 game series But if we continue to add WC teams and short series, the World Series "champion" will become more and more irrelevant. I think the redacted winning 101 games and redacted trumps this years WS pretend champion.

    Smoltz said if they played the orioles series 10 times the rangers wouldn’t come out ahead. Orioles luck just happened to run out the same time the rangers and their 4.77 bullpen ERAs luck also turned.

    Regards to last night talk about dodger fans being more well behaved than jays fans - if you read any Reddit for any team during any loss during the year, you will see the exact same takes whether it’s the jays or the braves. Everyone hates the manager and there is always a few players everyone picks on. When I went to get my scheudenfreud (sp) on the orioles Reddit, there was some of that, but there was way too many people saying s*** like “it was such an amazing season no matter what”. That just didn’t bring me any joy whatsoever and actually made me a bit upset. f*** the orioles

    My quote is a bit off but he said it’s the first team he’s been on that he thinks is capable of going all the way. This was specifically the playoff teams he’s been on. So it’s not that the jays didn’t make it, he didn’t think they would have been capable.

    The orioles getting swept finally is better than the jays being in the World Series honestly, to me. Also I noticed the broadcast last night said “Marcus Semien had said he was always on teams that just didn’t quite have enough and came up short” or something similar to that. Seems like a dig at the blue jays more than anything.

    6 years 300m seems ok. 500m seems like it will end up being a bad contract especially if we don’t take payroll to 275m range. He won’t be pitching and hitting in 5-6 years.

    I kind of assumed connor p does work in the MLB. Some type of analytics job.

    Unless baseball reference is wrong, 2.1m by age 35 is not bad. Better than most other career paths he could have taken. Unless he wanted to be a dentist or a lawyer or own a small business. But he made that money playing a game, he didn’t quite stick though. He will be disappointed no doubt. Dalton Pompey had made 1.6m by age 26 which is also a pretty good head start in life. I’m sure there are players with more talent like manoah who will have much more regret when they look back on their careers.
