    Jays expected to finish 4th based on Baseball Prospectus 79-83 https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/ Pretty fair projection, I'd say 79-83 is the range right now unless something changes. Their model appears to be more realistic than Fangraphs, they dont expect much from Travis, Sanchez, They also have pretty strong regression on Smoak, Estrada is expected to be replacement value, Infact anyone not named Donaldson, Osuna, or Stroman they are pretty low on.

    Shapiro and Atkins are respectful They would not give Donaldson's agent a number that was extreme lowballing. I would imagine that number is in the 5/100 plus options range or 5/115. Atkins said that such a contract would ensure Donaldson retires a Bluejays and I don't think the AAV would be less than what he is making now. 5/115 with Options is where the Jays sit ( pure guess )

They already traded away their top prospects and Santana is not enough or close to enough. So even if a convo took place it was likely a non starter

    Strike is definitely on the horizon for 2021. It could be good for the Jays. Adapting a system like the NBA and the NHL where there is a cap and a floor will result in a more even playing field. We may also see more playoff spots.

    Why not put a luxury tax on the floor as well, at the very least take revenue sharing and competitive balance draft picks away. Right now there is an incentive for teams not to spend too much, there should also be an incentive not to spend too little.

    I think the Hosmer 7 year deal is a lie that has gotten out of hand. Maybe it is a 7 year deal, but it may be a 7 year 100 Million deal. Low AAV. I cant imagine Hosmer having 7/175 and not striking on it yet.

    The only losers here will be the fans. Its systematic collusion stemming from the lack of desire to spend, when the past few years of shown that to be successful, all you have to do is to be an awful baseball club for ten years. This is heading towards a strike, and rightfully so. Historically, the idea has been that even when you cant win you should at least try to field a competitive club, have some stars to see for the fans. Now these owners don't want to spend any money at all rebuilding. They are completely comfortable with fielding 25 replacement level players. Most of all the Marlins have left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. I think there will be a strike in the near future.

    Atkins sure does say the right things, how that lines up with the actions of the administration remains to be seen. I would think it does, but there isn't enough conclusive evidence. A) Ultimately what he is saying is that the service time requirement to free agency has to be reduced. The practice of keeping players in the minors to control their service time, such as the Cubs and the Rays employ is unfair to the player, as they are using up their peak earning times. What I would like to see is a system, like the NBA, where if the player is extended by their own team, then they have a higher earning power. That way, while service time to Free Agency can be reduced, players have an incentive to reup with their own teams. This would also discourage the practices of the Rays, Marlins, and the recent world series champs. I hate the crash and rebuild mentality. It hurts the sport. If a team doesn't want to be competitive, then they need not participate IMO.

    The Redsox are still the best team in the division, even if they do nothing. They have an amazing young core, a solid pitching staff, and a good back end of the bullpen.

    Its hard to see Bautista as a coach either, he didn't seem all that personable. I would really like to see him announce his retirement, and call it a career.

    IF I am the players association, I want a spending floor on the Revenue sharing agreement and competitive balance draft picks. If teams want these nice things, they should have to spend a minimum amount. What we have right now is a bunch of teams against the luxury tax, a bunch of teams not wanting to spend at all since they have no chance of winning, and a bunch of teams like the Jays hoping and waiting for the market to bottom out. IMO the biggest change has not been in the minds of the teams but rather the fans. The last three champions became champions by bottoming out and being absolutely horrible for a very long time. This is where baseball has failed. It has provided incentives for teams to be really bad. The Royals, Cubs and Astros all became champions by being really really bad. Now fans in other markets like Pittsburgh, Philly, Chicago, Detroit, and even here want the same thing. They are willing to endure teams being really bad if the end result is good. This is heading towards a strike for sure.
