  1. I am a huge Jays homer and support them through the worst. But if theres anything that makes me angry - it's the positive "spinning" of losses in headlines. I am a subscriber of MLBTV and I follow the Jays on Facebook. Every headline for losses is complete bunk. I understand it depends on the news source, but I will say I live in NYC and when the teams lose here, nobody sugar coats it. Some negative media spin might be good for these Jays. They need to be held accountable for losing. Thank you
  2. My James Shields proposal on behalf of Jays: 4 yrs 80M with potential for 5 yrs 105M 1) 10 M - age 33 2) 20 M - age 34 3) 25 M - age 35 4) 25 M - age 36 5) 25 M (VESTING) - age 37 5th Year vests if: 1) he has > 600 IP in first three years and he isn’t currently injured. OR 2) If in 3rd yr he has over 12 wins and has at least 6 playoff IP (in year 3) and he isn’t currently injured. OR 3) If in year 3 he has > 210 IP and he isn’t currently injured. *** He takes a pay-cut in year 1 for benefit of very achievable 5th year. Vesting controlled by performance up through/during age 35 season.
  3. No. because I'll be able to afford my own spaceship when I'm 35.
  4. cant wait until 2023. Gonna fly my spaceship to the rogers centre and watch this boy play
  5. Merry Christmas. - from Takashi Toritani
  6. Could you imagine if it came out he was female? Id be so pissed
  7. He has a leg kick we need him. http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=25664955
  8. Baked me a sandwich
  9. LOL. One of the more random analogies ive ever seen
  10. Torri hunter can play RF. We wouldnt be pursuing him to play left
  11. Winning the wbc was the point of the statement. Im not racist. If every dominican player played like EE i wouldnt be saying this. There is a clear positive correlation between dominican players and extent to which the game is played in a colorful manner. Its not a bad thing. Only in bunches.
  12. Trust me that this is a thing. I will reference dumping bonifacio, the ervin santana fiasco and moises sierra as evidence. Probably the treatment of esmil rogers too but i cant prove that as easily. None of these moves (except probably rogers) were about money or performance. Bonifacio only had a few million left on his contract and you had to believe he'd turn things around a bit. It was very non AA like to give up on a trade investment that quickly. Ervin santana appeared to be the absolute perfect option. Decent track record, one year contract. Theres absolutely no reason we couldnt have paid 1M-2M more to bring him in. Theres also no reason he wouldnt have wanted to come to Toronto. So our GM said im gonna make our "leaders" defer to support his season. Put your money where your mouth is. And they did. A mix of dominicans and non dominicans. But we didnt budge a dollar beyond that. This team doesnt want colorful individual personalities. They want quiet winners with proven leadership. EE fits the bill. Reyes and Bautista do not. They happen to be great ballplayers but we are better if we dont have both of them.
  13. we cant. its just a known thing you cant let dominicans take over your team. again, not racist, its just fact. the culture of these guys and baseball is nothing you can compare to american lifestyle. their pride for their country which happens to be the major hub for baseball is almost bigger than the team itself. its not a bad thing or quality. i just dont think you fill half your team with it. unless, of course, winning involves pride for their country. did you watch the world baseball classic in 2012?
  14. sign sandoval to backloaded deal. trade bautista for controllable pieces. extend EE for 4-5 more years. i'd feel comfortable with sandoval, EE, martin as our veteran nucleus for 5 years. to do it you need to use bautista to fill in the blanks.
  15. you don't change the makeup of this team without moving one of the dominicans. i dont mean this to be racist, but we need to reduce the clique-ey-ness that comes with reyes, bautista and encarnacion. enough with the stupid handshakes. winning teams do their celebrating inside the dugout. and they do it as a team. to get the best out of this team, things need to be less comfortable. leadership comes in many forms. most of which happen when the fans cant see. dickey expects to go out and throw 6-7 innings every game and does his job queitly. when he gets taken out, we hear he gets mad because he wants to be out there. thats character and leadership. leadership is not getting clutch hits during the regular season or having the best stat-line. leadership is also not what it appears when a fan watches a game. leadership is what emerges once you have a team playing as one. we sort of have that with the pitching staff. buehrle is the "leader", but he does it quietly. dickey offsets his starpower and fills another necessary role. the process of offsetting starpower on offense started with martin. although it's not done yet. you are going to see bautista or encarnacion traded. maybe reyes but that'll be more difficult. one of the three wont be on the opening day roster.
  16. please explain to me how that is relevant
  17. We are gonna sign lester and trade bautista. Bautista's trade will net multiple MLB players, each with valued positional flexibility and years of control. My theory doesnt apply to pitchers. I dont care if jed lowrie is a free agent thats not the point. We need an ace.
  18. assume every team gets the same amount of WAR to spend: The best team would be the one where every player has the ability to play another position and all positions are covered multiple times. If you take your best offensive player and multiply this impact, you not only cover more positions, you diversify. You trade bautista because two years of control means two years of investment risk. His value externally is higher than it is internally. See: outfield Market
  19. Its not if you free up cash and actually sign scherzer or lester
  20. Jose Bautista Mark Buehrle Dionner Navarro Maicer Izturis For Brandon Moss Jed Lowrie Derek Norris Sign: Max Scherzer or Jon Lester. Extend Edwin Encarnacion. Rotation: Scherzer Dickey Stroman Hutchison Happ/Sanchez Lineup: Reyes Martin Encarnacion Norris Lowrie/Travis Moss Lawrie/Valencia Pompey
  21. I am a CPA and I specialize in Tax. In the US you get credit for taxes paid to state jurisdictions as an itemized deduction on your Federal return (schedule A, line 5 of 1040). Same idea if you earn in multiple states. You only get taxed on income once. There's no such thing as double taxation unless you are a shareholder of a corporation.
  22. Also maybe they knew they could only have one of lane thomas or ZZ and didnt care about the forfeited allocation. Its more likely ZZ just reneged on a deal, but im just making the point that you need to think outside the confines of the slotting system. Ill take quality over quantity anyday.
