what we get with Cecil and Grilli now determines our destiny. It's not as good, but my hope is that we can get up during a few games and utilize a Dickey/Feldman 3-4 inning close. Last year we leaned on Osuna far too much. Cant do the same with Osuna/Grilli. If Cecil wakes up and finds his shut-down stuff and Grilli has the magic from much of this year - I like our chances. I would have been saying the same thing about Benoit despite his success as a Jay. We are deep enough where an injury is more like a replacement. And let's be honest - what we were getting out of Benoit likely wouldn't have translated completely in the playoffs. Its a step back, but not very much.

This. If not this game I would venture to guess this was a planned thing pre-playoffs. Donaldson gets thrown inside A LOT. Well worth it.

Also Biagini being overused. Another in the line of Loup, Cecil, etc getting way too much mileage. if Morales is healthy he'll be huge for us. Remember, Mark Lowe and Darren Oliver showed up in August last year and pitched a lot. Even with that infusion we were still shorthanded in the bullpen by playoffs time.

Agreed but Dickey's worth keeping for the innings and hes getting 12M so you gotta try and make both work somehow. Dickey effectively allows Sanchez to start and shift to the bullpen. If we had one more swing guy then id agree

Who of the relievers have options? Hutch does so I dont see the value in carrying a backup catcher at all. Shuttle someone up (jimenez/thole if he has options/other) when Martin needs rest every 5 days and shift Hutch down. Rotate accordingly. The value of having excess arms wins more games then the off-chance Martin gets hurt. If hutch is on the roster 4/5 days he wont care. Is this allowed?

Hutch and Dickey should be used in tandem every 5 days. The psychological implications of the two headed monster alone are enough to warrant consideration.
