Ok let me clarify I'm a stat's guy but i'm not sure why the stats community can't understand that some high strikeout guys can be stinkers when they are not striking guys out, Alla morrow, santos, Johnson.
Right but you have to remember that save situations have a small margin of error and a guy like santos can definitely make janssen look like a scrub on a given night but Janssen has very little deviation on his performance when a guy like santos can walk a bunch of guys and throw a stinker. Janssen now has several years of 2 war closer ball and that has its value weather you prefer the strikeouts or not.
I agree Santos has nastier stuff then janssen but I would take the consistency over the stuff 365 days of the year, especially at the end of the game in close games.
I know the numbers would suggest that the closer position is overrated but is it? A guy like Jansen is huge and what would you get for him in return in a trade?.... not much I think the closer position is getting close to being underrated, at least if you have a great closer.
This may be the dumbest thing I have ever said but is it possible that diminished velocity is good for buerhle since its a larger contrast to what the hitters are used to.
