  1. Where is this quote? The one saying 'I have no bias', or strongly imply it? Either I'm just missing it, or you're full of s*** with that statement.
  2. This is probably the biggest impediment to considering Alvarez as an option. Unless you could ditch Smoaks money it probably doesn't make much sense. I really don't get that contract.
  3. You keep f***ing saying this KK. I made a post with a whole paragraph saying; 1- There is a bias 2- I believe that bias is quite small and easy to compartmentalize away 3- Any remaining bias due to not adjusting enough for it in my analysis, would be incredibly small
  4. pretty sure I explicitly stated he didn't agree we should sign him. pretty sure the whole point of that post was praising that he actually looked at the players instead of just saying 'z3r0s owns him in LOD so that's the only reason he could possibly find Alvarez interesting'
  5. damn, quoted before I could change 'excessive' to 'exercise'
  6. I was just about to write a post about the plus's and neg's I see in the 3 players, but than I realized it would just be a metal excessive for myself rather than an actual discussion. It has been decided that I am just bias.
  7. How about NJH (who absolutely did not suggest he agrees). He actually compared the 3 options for our 1B platoon and noted some areas where Pedro would be better, and some where he would be worse. I really don't expect (or really want to at this point) to have a long discussion about the merits and pitfalls of Pedro (we all know where the others stand). But that's what I was looking for when I first brought it up. Just a little discussion. But it turned into me being biased and therefore there was no need to discuss.
  8. You're so generous. Good argument.
  9. The reason I've been arguing for the last two pages doesn't even have that much to do with Alvarez, but more about the two of you making using terrible reasons to justify ignore the Alvarez suggestion. If you have a conversation about the merits of the player, we probably would have just agreed to disagree by now. But no, you just label me as unable to account for my bias. You keep saying that I don't even acknowledge it as a possibility. I f***ing addressed it specifically in a post! Now there are b2b posts about how I have convinced myself he is useful enough to roster in LOD, so I think he must just be great IRL. Its a 30 team dynasty league, its hard NOT to be rosterable. He is MORE valuable in fantasy than IRL. Its really not hard to compartmentalize my ownership of him when discussing real life possibilities. If you think it is, maybe you have a harder time with this than I do. Just to reiterate, I'm arguing not because I'm outraged that you don't want Pedro, there are legit reasons to not. But you guys aren't using those reasons (at least posting them), but rather just calling me disingenuous in my suggestion that he might help the RL team.
  10. one of the sides, or the argument as a whole?
  11. same response from KK and yourself. Admit it's lazy. Assert it's true. How about pointing out where my alleged bias has affected my suggestion that Alvarez could be an upgrade given the right deal. nah, pointing out a potential bias is enough.
  12. Was the whole next part of that paragraph not my musing on how I considered it and don't feel its affected the points I made re: Alvarez?
  13. sounds like someone who doesn't want to make an argument but wants to get their lazy two-cents in would say.
  14. The Dickey trade seems to often be characterized as celebrated on here. Most people hated the deal from a value perspective. But given the deal was already done, chose to focus on the excitement of getting a Cy Young pitcher. As I recall it, people were pretty bummed that we gave up d'Arnaud, then straight up furious we then second piece was Synder
  15. Surely you don't want to rob Jeff Blair of his vote!!!!!
  16. Your assertion that I might not be 'properly adjusting' for my bias is a pretty weak-sauce argument. If the original bias is minuscule, than the error in adjustment on that bias would be only a fraction of that already minuscule bias. For the record, I don't find it difficult to separate my real life analysis of the team and players, from my fantasy analysis and moves, so I do assert the original bias is minuscule. As for your next point, no. I will not withdraw my suggestion and invalidate my arguments based purely on the fact that I may have some sort of bias. I'll do what I always do and try to make good points while checking for my own biases. Just because nobody else is arguing for Pedro, is not an argument against him. There are lots of reasons why people may not argue for him, no the least of which is that the suggestion is largely based on a play to try and catch lighting in a bottle than getting a likely upgrade (so a small small upgrade).
  17. Only if you have very little ability to compartmentalize. I'm not on here saying "OMGZ we gotta sign Pedro right away because he's soooo f***ing awesome!!!" I think I've been pretty clear that it only make sense if he comes for pennies on the dollar, and that even though he isn't a clear upgrade on either Smoak or Cola, it might make sense because the upside is (I think fairly clearly) much higher than either of those two. I think that's a pretty defensible position, and its lazy to just say "Well you just like him because you own him in fantasy, smh"
  18. I fail to see why I would advocate the Jays to pick him up (knowing that has no effect on them actually doing it) because I own him in a fantasy league. I brought him up because he would presumably come cheap (CCC signed for 2.5MM) and has some upside the others don't.
  19. I'd say that he isn't obviously an upgrade, but does offer a LH bat, and some real upside (which I'm not sure Smoak or Cola really have). The guy was a 3 win player only a few years ago and would be moving to a much better power hitting park.
  20. I'm not confident that Cola is superior to either. I also don't think he'll cost much given the contract for CCC and a market that doesn't seem to be developing. I find it strange that anyone would ever say "we don't need more offense".
  21. I wonder if Pedro Alvarez might make sense for us now given his market seems uber weak-sauce. I understand he's been pretty bad the last 2 years, but obviously has the power to break out any given season. I wouldn't have suggested it if it didn't look like he would cost peanuts. Adds a LH bat as well and is a better bat than Smoak

Advanced stats guys seem to think D-men really don't matter that much.
  23. not sure if people are overestimating Connor Greene or underestimating Marcell Ozuna.
  24. no kidding. Too bad we don't have pitching prospects to get in on that.
  25. we should confirm the teams dropping as well. 4 would be ideal bringing us to 16. confirmed; BTS NJH jays_fever who else?
