Cuban pitcher Yadier Alvarez won't be eligible to reach an official agreement with a team until the upcoming July 2 international signing period.
Alvarez had petitioned Major League Baseball to allow him to sign early, but that request apparently got rejected. The hard-throwing 19-year-old right-hander will be one of the most sought-after prospects on the international market when July 2 hits. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reported in late April that the Dodgers have been the most aggressive team on him so far, but the Blue Jays, Nationals, Rangers, and Diamondbacks are also believed to be in the mix.
