Jays: Dickey takes the ball coming off his best outing of the year, yielding two runs and five hits over a season-best 8.1 innings in Sunday's 5-2 win over Oakland. He is 4-1 with a 2.52 ERA over his last six starts. By wrapping up a third straight series sweep with a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Wednesday, the Blue Jays pushed their win streak to nine. Their pitching staff owns a 3.00 ERA during the run, Jose Reyes is hitting .370 during an 11-game hitting streak and Edwin Encarnacion has 14 RBIs over his last 10 contests. Encarnacion has already tied the team record for home runs in a single month and, with three days left in May, he is three home runs shy of Barry Bonds' record for May home runs. Royals: Shields has proven dominant in recent years against Toronto, going 6-1 over his last eight matchups with a 1.13 ERA - the lowest among pitchers with at least five starts against the Blue Jays since the start of 2011. He's also tossed two complete games in his last three at Rogers Centre. Their 4-9 record since May 15 is baseball's second-worst. After scoring three runs or fewer in four straight, they're one loss away from matching a season-worst five-game skid. Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler are a combined 3 for 29 during the skid with one RBI. Kansas City was 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position in Wednesday's 9-3 home loss to Houston. Brett Hayes' homer was just the team's third in 14 games, and the Royals' 21 are the fewest in baseball - 55 less than major league-leading Toronto. Jays: Hendricks allowed a home run and two other hits in 5.2 innings of a 3-2 victory over Oakland in his season debut Friday. Atop the AL East this late for the first time since July 6, 2000, the Blue Jays have averaged 6.3 runs, hit 17 home runs and batted .321 during their longest winning streak since matching the club-record 11 last June. A winner in 13 of 15, Toronto has homered in 10 straight contests for the first time since a 12-game stretch Aug. 6-18, 2011. Toronto has the best home record in the American League at 15-11. Rays: Chris Archer gave up four hits and struck out 11 in six innings while not factoring in the decision of a 1-0 victory over Boston on Friday. Alex Cobb's streak of consecutive scoreless innings was halted at 24.2 innings on Tuesday night, setting a new franchise record. Cobb broke the previous mark of 23 straight shutout innings, set by James Shields in 2011. The Rays have recorded four consecutive games with double-digit hits after notching 12 in Tuesday's loss. Jays: Buehrle came within one out of a shutout April 2 in Tampa Bay, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out a season-high 11. He hasn't slipped up much since, and is seeking to win a season-high fifth consecutive decision. Buehrle gave up two runs for the third straight outing Thursday - this time over seven innings - in a 7-2 victory at Boston. After going deep only twice in April, Edwin Encarnacion has smacked 13 home runs in May, marking the second-most home runs hit by a Toronto player in a single month in franchise history. Jose Bautista owns the franchise record after he homered 14 times in June 2012. Bautista hit his first 13 homers during that historic month in 105 plate appearances. Encarnacion hit home run No. 13 in his 107th plate appearance of May. This year is the only the fourth in the past 30 that the AL East did not have a team with a winning percentage of at least .570 on the morning of Memorial Day. Toronto entered the day in first place with a .569 winning percentage, but ended the day at .577. Rays: Cobb, who has not allowed a run in his last 21.2 innings. In his first start back from a strained left oblique, the right-hander gave up three hits and two walks in 6.2 innings Thursday against Oakland. Cobb did not get a decision in his return from a six-week stint on the disabled list because the Rays once again provided him with no run support in a 5-2, 11-inning victory. He's been backed by one run in four starts this season. Cobb has made three straight scoreless starts to tie a franchise record, but his streak is the Rays' first within a single season, as Matt Moore accomplished the feat in his final start of 2012 and his first two of 2013. Cobb's 21.2 consecutive shutout innings mark the third-longest streak in franchise history. James Shields set the record with 23 straight in 2011, and Moore logged 22.1 during his stretch of three straight scoreless starts. Tampa Bay's win Sunday was manager Joe Maddon's 700th with the club. Jays: Hutchison hopes to contribute to a rotation that has a 2.61 ERA while the team has won 11 of 13. The right-hander allowed one run over 5 2-3 innings Wednesday in a 6-4 win at Boston. He scattered three hits over 5 1-3 scoreless innings in a 4-2 victory over the Rays on April 1 when the teams split a season-opening four-game set. Jose Reyes, though, has been seeing the ball well with a .353 average over an eight-game hitting streak. He's also hitting .381 over his last five home meetings with the Rays. The Blue Jays, atop the division this late for the first time since July 6, 2000, lead the majors with 70 home runs. They haven't homered in nine consecutive contests since April 27-May 5, 2012. Rays: Bedard has filled in nicely by going 2-1 with an 0.96 ERA in his last five starts. On Wednesday, he gave up three runs - one earned - and one hit over 5 1-3 innings in a 3-2 home loss to Oakland. Longoria, who had eight hits in the series, went 6 for 15 with a homer and four RBIs in the April series versus Toronto. Brandon Guyer also looks to keep swinging a hot bat after going 6 for 10 in his last two versus Boston. Tampa Bay's win Sunday was manager Joe Maddon's 700th with the club. Jays: Happ has alternated good and bad performances in four starts since joining the rotation. He won despite a subpar outing Tuesday, giving up four runs and seven hits over five-plus innings in a 7-4 victory at Boston. With his single in the first inning Saturday, Melky Cabrera has now hit safely in 41 of his 49 games this season. Toronto has recorded an extra-base hit in 35 straight games, and the team leads the Majors in XBH in May with 93. They lead the majors with 69 homers and ranks near the top with 243 runs. The Blue Jays have also scored 28 times with 10 home runs during their five-game win streak. Athletics: Pomeranz has been spotless since replacing the ineffective Dan Straily in Oakland's rotation this season. The 2010 first-round draft pick has allowed eight hits with 16 strikeouts over 15 scoreless innings to win each of his first three starts. The left-hander gave up three hits over five innings in a 3-0 victory at Tampa Bay on Tuesday for his first road win since 2012. Although the A's lead the league with 247 runs, the AL West leaders have totaled 12 while hitting .175 in their last five games. With their loss Saturday, the A's are now 5-3 on their current road trip and have dropped three straight. They've lost only four games in the last 15. Jays: Dickey has pitched into the seventh inning in each of his last six starts, but has retired just three of the 17 batters he's faced. He has held opponents to a .206 average through the first six innings on the season, but they're 10 for 20 with seven extra-base hits off him in the seventh. The right-hander served up a two-run homer in the seventh inning in Sunday's 6-2 loss to Texas. He yielded four runs over 6 1-3 innings in losing for the first time in six starts. With his single in the sixth inning on Friday, Jose Bautista has now reached base safely in all but one of his 48 games this season, recording at least a hit in 34. Toronto starting pitchers have a 1.96 ERA in the last three games and a 2.94 mark in the last 11. The Blue Jays also lead the majors with 68 homers, and they are 13-2 since May 4 in games they've gone deep. The right-hander gave up two runs and six hits in five innings in Sunday's 13-3 win over Cleveland. He struck out six, walked three and threw a career-high 109 pitches. Moss continued his tear at the plate Friday, homering for the sixth time in 13 games. He is batting .373 with seven doubles and 16 RBIs over that stretch.
