  1. My thoughts at the time of the move was either a) the Jays are in trade talks to acquire a 3B and are experimenting to see how Lawrie handles 2B. a team inquired about Lawrie in trade, who was looking for him to play 2B. And with the Jays FO knowing the year was a write off, played him at 2B to show him off.
  2. Funny how you fell in love with the instant contender last year at the expense of depth, but you're now arguing against a trade for Stanton for the same thing you fell in love with. The key is not be a sucker, and to be patient. You're pretty much putting yourself in every casual fans shoes of every team. Who no matter how f***ing s*** their team is every year, there's that glimmer of hope that gums their brain up into thinking..... we have a chance. Would you expect the Raptors current team to replicate what they're doing next year? Fluke teams aren't something you should be hitching yourself to.
  3. If what you're saying is true, it's odd he doesn't mind acquiring malcontents through trade, but not free agency. Doesn't mind overpaying for players in trade but is extremely cost conscious in free agency. What the f*** is the thought process here? Not necessarily. I was one of the biggest proponents of building through youth and efficiency. But if you can acquire a player on a good deal, why would someone be against that? I understood the theory behind the moves, just not a fan of old, expensive teams. Because as the team gets too old, you know it wouldn't be a retooling of the franchise it would be a massive rebuild, similarly to what the Marlins use to do. And that's a really horrible, hollow way to run a franchise building and burning. And as for our solid lineup and strong pen......the 'pen is the last of the 3 facets (lineup, rotation, pen) priority wise a team should be worrying about. Lineup & Rotation strength easily trump having a strong pen. What we did was sped up contention, but set us back further if this contention window fails. There've been very successful teams in the past where there were trouble makers on the team. Tired of the... "lets target nice players who don't cause problems". Its stupid You're joking right?
  4. So wish we hadn't got involved in temporary windows to be good.
  5. I was, but I was 9 & 10 years old in 85 & 86.
  6. Um, I'm actually indifferent if the Jays make the post-season. Sure it would be nice, but I'm not gonna go bonkers like everyone else.
  7. I'm not blind to what happened at all. I think you're blind to what is and isn't happening with all the other teams. And I don't think it's fair for you to comment on the Jays if you're oblivious to what's happening elsewhere. Before the 2013 season started I was not as optimistic as the rest of the fanbase in thinking the Jays were WS bound. So all your little injury talk about all these man-games missed means nothing to me. I didn't think they were good enough before all these injuries befell the Jays once again.
  8. The smartest thing you said were the last 8 words. I'm pessimistic about everything in life. And when something good happens, I appreciate it. Sorry if I don't think the best of every situation is gonna happen.
  9. I wasn't on board with them as a WS contender like most. I felt they were in the mix to possibly make the playoffs, but not as optimistic as most. I'm not a hoper. Either the team on paper is good enough to put up against other teams for me to believe they're a playoff team, or they aren't. If Alex swings and misses on Jimenez, Santana & Drew by design or a failure to do so, then I have them in the same boat as last year. They're a good team, don't get me wrong, but too much is riding on everything going right. I'm well aware the casual fanbase has a purpose. A bigger one than I care to acknowledge. My problem is, if the Jays had continued on their path of making shrewd moves of building the farm, acquiring guys like Morrow, Rasmus & Lawrie and continued and continued to do that. Eventually you have a good, young sustainable team. And you keep digging to make the entire team better, pushing the ceilings of future teams higher and higher. The FO pretty much pulled the future back and said we're competing now. Well, if you're gonna do that, then do it. Don't waffle on free agents prices. Heck Beeston said the owners have never said "no" when they've asked for money, so what's the hold up? Go offer Jimenez or Drew a real contract and get them here. If the FO is low-balling these guys, then the big boy team is just a dream. I chalk that completely up to Beeston.
  10. It's my opinion. And for me contention is being in a pennant race up until mid-September or making the playoffs. I agree Based on how the FO is currently operating the Jays should be doing everything they can to be competitive, yet still efficient. Nope. I expect a GM to cut to the bone once and only once. After that I expect re-tooling, not a full gutting of the team again.
  11. Wow....too many people are all-in on this Jays being a powerhouse. Sorry Kev, they're coming up short in my books. And if it means that the team is throwing caution to the wind like the Yankees do, then this organization is in huge trouble going forward.
  12. He's 34 in June.
  13. Its called being realistic.
  14. Saskjayfan seen and overheard: (tears welling up in eyes, lower lip quivering) "I'm gonna be sooooo mad if the Jays don't break camp with the absolute best team in 2014....a non-contending year, because I'm a fan and I deserve to see the best possible team without any considerations for the future where the team has a chance to be better. Screw depth and the future, I'm a Blue Jays fan and we're a powerhouse" BARF!!!!!!
  15. Not much, as I explained in the post before this. I don't wanna see McGowan, Drabek, Hutch or Stroman breaking camp with the Jays in the rotation. McGowan's best suited in the 'pen and Drabek's not far off with him. As for Hutch & Stroman, there's absolutely no reason why they can't be in Buffalo for a couple months. The Jays are not contending this year and there's no reason to rush them.
  16. I'm not saying sell them all. But hanging on for too long is just lazy or stupid. As for moving Redmond, I would expect a prospect or two in the low minors with a little bit of upside who would take the place of a promotion to start weeding out organization guys in the higher levels. Its a replenishing process.
  17. To the fans with this thought process, please don't ever complain about depth. If you believe this team has a shot at the post-season in 2014......you're one of those fans no matter who their fave team is, there's always a chance.......bwahahaha As for the Jays, when you can't come close to financially contending with the big money players in baseball and the GM & President don't mind throwing big money around at assets not even close to what they're making, depth is f***ing crucial.
  18. As much as I'm a fan of trying a guy out to start before moving them to the 'pen. It's time to utilize McGowan as a late inning RP and forget about using him as a SP. I can see him succeeding.....and then after a year or two, you trade him. My opinion on Drabek has also slid for him to be a pen arm going forward. I still don't understand why the Jays aren't selling high on their players and still pandering to the we need to have faces the fans recognize angle.
  19. IMO running Redmond out for a run every five days until June when Hutch & Stroman come up, and then they trade Redmond is the best course of action. The team isn't winning or coming close to winning anything this year, so why not run him out there to get eyes on him and for him to be a useful piece to another team as a back-end SP.
  20. Once the kids start coming up is when I'm gonna get excited.
  21. Sil Campusano, Glen Allen Hill & "Smelly Shittin'" Mark Whiten
  22. But I'd still know what she looks like. I'd have already wasted my time dealing with some ugly broad if I'm at the point you've put up. If a girl is ugly I don't care if her body's a 10.....she's a zero to me.
  23. Britney Haynes....from Big Brother. Jordan Lloyd is way better though.
