Plus he is a LHB. He kinda reminds me of Fisher, not in the type of player he is but the career direction so far.
Both Fisher and Smith had good minor league careers and both were former top 100 prospects. (Fisher had better hitting numbers) Smith had two season of about 350AB total where he did nothing in the majors and Fisher had about 400AB over 3 seasons. (Smith also had a bad year last year in the minors while Fisher didn't)
Smith was breaking out big time before he went on the 60DL. There is a great fangraph article about him, his Ks and Walks were terrible in his first two seasons. Last season they basically improve to the point were they are closer to his minor league numbers. It just 200AB season but I want Smith as the Jays new 1B.
There are some interesting free agent options but they are mostly just placeholders, Smith could solve the hole for years.
